cannot send email can receive

I just bought a new computer and had the Geek Squad at Best Buy set it up. I
have Trend Micro Antivirus and the scan outgoing email is turned off. I can
occasionally send very short, one word email, but nothing longer and nothing
with an attachment. I get the same error message every time. I have talked
with the ISP to be sure the settings are correct, they assure me the settings
are correct. I talked to HP and they couldn't figure out the problem either,
but wanted to restore to factory settings (I would loose Office, and
antivirus software so this is not a good option.) I use TDS Telecom as my ISP
an I have high speed DSL. Here is the error message

-- Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes
for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'sunday', Account: 'pop.tds.net (1)', Server:
'smtp.tds.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800CCC0F

My incoming mail server is set at POP3 the outgoing server is set at SMTP
I have also even tried disabling Mirosoft Firewall and it did not make a
difference. Please help.
THANKS! KIM

Re: cannot send email can receive

Your problem is caused by Trend Micro.
Trend Micro antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
First, go into its settings and disable any interaction with email, then try
Windows Mail again. If no improvement, do a trial uninstall.

Another option (instead of uninstalling Trend Micro) is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of
overly intrusive antivirus products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

In any case you must disable any antivirus email scanning, for the reason
explained here:

Re: cannot send email can receive

Which antivirus do you have installed?

Also, right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without that complete error message.
There often are subtle differences in error messages that are not obvious
to a novice.
