| Unable to send, but can receive emails
I see I am not the only one with this frustrating issue... I have reviewed several of the posts and just when I think it fits, something for me is different. I changed ISP 8/05/08, from Embarq to Brighthouse, which is when my problem began. I was using a trial McAfee but did not renew. Ports: outgoing smtp 25 - incoming pop3 110 Requires secure connection NOT checked Requires authentication NOT checked I AM able to delete from the Outbox I receive the following error message: The host 'smtp-server.clf.rr.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Subject 'testing', Account: 'pop-server.cfl.rr.com', Server: 'smtp-server.clf.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D After a week and a half of frustration, I ask, beg, plead for your help. HELP! Ok, I've composed myself, now I'll click send. Thanks in advance, Janmarie |

Hi I am in the UK, and not totally familiar with the ISP set up in California. Try the nearest to you from below: California (Bakersfield) incoming mail server: pop-server.bak.rr.com outgoing mail server: smtp-server.bak.rr.com California (San Diego) incoming mail server: pop-server.san.rr.com outgoing mail server: smtp-server.san.rr.com California (Southern / Los Angeles) incoming mail server: pop-server.socal.rr.com outgoing mail server: smtp-server.socal.rr.com California (Desert Cities) incoming mail server: pop-server.dc.rr.com outgoing mail server: smtp-server.dc.rr.com |

Looks like you need to use the following for BrightHouse. From the above: Set up e-mail servers window settings: a.. Select POP in the drop-down list. b.. Enter pop-server.bak.rr.com in the Incoming Mail Server (POP3) field. c.. Enter smtp-server.bak.rr.com in the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) field. |

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular resident protection. Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's anti-virus seems to be causing problems too. |

If you are using Brighthouse in Central Florida, the settings are: .. Home Page URL: http://www.aroundcentralflorida.com/index.asp .. Account Management: http://provselfcare.tampflrdc.rr.com .. POP Server Address: pop-server.cfl.rr.com .. SMTP Server Address: smtp-server.cfl.rr.com .. Web Mail URL: https://webmail.cfl.rr.com .. Dial Access URL: http://dialaccess.rr.com Note the "CFL" not "CLF" as you show..... Change the server names in Tools - Accounts - youraccount - Properties - Servers |

I thought it was the name of the account that was wrong, and that clf was California :-)) The install guy did my setup, guess I was looking for something big! I checked, double checked and tripled checked everything (I thought). Thanks for the fresh eyes. Just sent five emails to make sure. Fabulous! Thanks again! |

| Re: Unable to send, but can receive emails
My problem was solved by Dave (Note the "CFL" not "CLF" as you show.....). However, I am going to follow your advice to hopefully prevent any future problems as well. Being a novice to all this technical stuff, I just have to figure out the uninstall for McAfee. I understand that in itself has been a problem for some! I saw an earlier thread suggesting a better program for compatibility with Windows. I'll check that out too. Thanks again. I appreciate all the help I've received! |

McAfee antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail. Sometimes it takes a while before symptoms start showing up. Always follow up a McAfee uninstall by using their debris removal tool: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocumen...107083&lc=1033 If you decide to replace McAfee, of the available free antivirus programs, the ones that are compatible with Windows Mail are: AVG free edition: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff and Avast free edition: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html However, with either of those, during the install phase you must select 'custom' install, and then deselect the email scanning module so it won't install. Instead of switching to a different antivirus, another option is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail (WLM), which is more resistant to the adverse effects of aggressive antivirus products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview Even with WLM, you must disable email scanning in the antivirus, for the reason explained here I do believe I have successfully uninstalled McAfee and successfully installed Avast! |

I have had a similar problem and did not receive any error messages. Emails would just sit in the outbox but I was able to receive incoming mail ok. I found that there was a problem with one of the emails in the outbox. I deleted it and all the rest were able to be sent ok. Hope this helps. |
