| Re: Installing Warcraft 3
Well, I just installed WC3 and the 1.21 patch and it loaded and ran fine. Though I didn't actually start playing the game, I just went to the Start Campaign screen. Though I didn't have to do anything, make sure you right click on the install.exe and choose run as administrator. You can also right click and choose properties on install.exe and choose compatibility and tell it to run as XP:Service pack 2 Should work fine, heck I might even play a little now |

Redownloading the game? I trying To install it from my CD's. I am having a problem Installing warcraft III also, I am getting the error meassage "ERROR" no program start menu found" and then it won't install. I tried running as administrator and also both the XPsp2 and windows 98/me compatibilty modes and neither worked. Try redownloading the game from Blizzard. I just downloaded their latest version of the online installer and the game installed flawlessly on my Vista x64 system. There is a solution to this problem listed on probably ONE page on this internet. I have used it several times as I've been formatting my HDs. I can not find it now. But it is a registry edit that tells Warcraft III the directory to install the start menu icons. Very simple and elegant. If I find it I will post it. Assuming you don't have a hard disk problem, you might try installing into a different location. Create c:\games and install WC3 into it, then try the update process. The reason is that UAC is very testy about what happens in c:\program files and its possible there is a permissions problem. |

Yes, that's what makes my suggestion a possible solution. It is a completely different and successfully documented alternative to installing from your original CDs which use the original, pre-Vista installer on said discs. The only way to use a newer installer is to download their new online version and set the game up on your PC across the Internet. Tyler Cobb, MCP |

| RE: Installing Warcraft 3
Okay I found a solution if anyone else has this problem: 1. Disable UAC (User Account Control) from the user menu in the control panel. 2. Logoff your user account, then log on to an administrator account. 3. Go to the control panel then users, look for your original account you were trying to install the game from, and then change the account type to administrator. 4. Logoff or just switch users back to your original account then install! 5. Just remember to go back and make your account limited again, and turn UAC back on as this will have disabled Internet explorer's protected mode. |

| Re: Installing Warcraft 3
1) Go to Start > Run > type regedit 2) Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr ent Version\Explorer\Shell Folders" if there is no string in there called "Programs" put that in with the value: C:\\Users\\%USERNAME%\\AppData\\Roaming\\Microsoft \\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs and you can get the installation to work, game works fine too. |

Hello, I run a 32bit vista, and I have problems with WC3. I can install Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos, but I can't update the patches. I've tried downloading and installing it manually from the Blizzard site and also through Bnet, but it doesn't work. This is the error message: -This is the error message: Blizzard BNUpdate v2.130 compiled on Jun 24 2008 Log created at 10:37 am on 12/06/2008 This patch upgrades Warcraft III Reign of Chaos from the previous version. ERROR: unable to open source archive 'C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\war3x.mpq' RESULT: Patch failed- I also tried to install Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne, and it gets stuck halfway and doesn't continue to read. After that happens, many times it will say that it can't read my Reign of Chaos either. I've been trying all sorts of things for the past 5 days, even reinstalling OS Vista, PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Warcraft 3 & DirectX 10 don't get along together very well |

| Re: Installing Warcraft 3
works fine here, Since Warcraft 3 uses DirectX 9 it won't even bother with DirectX 10 libs, so how can DirectX 10 be the problem? When in doubt: Update all drivers Update DirectX files with DXWEBSETUP.EXE |

I second you. I could install and play it in my 64-bit Vi$ta Ultimate.... ... :) You need to disable Desktop Composition to view the movie properly. You could use registry hack to set the screen size. |
