Is there a solution to install this update?

RE: Security update for SQL Server Pack 2(KB948109)

Mine crashed with an error 0x735E and now my SQL Server service will not
start. My 24x7 non-stop system is now down, and every SECOND that ticks by
is costing me money. I have de-installed the hotfix, but it still won't come
up.

DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE. And if anybody has any ideas, I could use the
help.

I'm having the same trouble trying to install the update although the only
error I get is Code 66E. I have noticed that the are several other people
having similiar trouble but that their SQL version is 2000 versus 2005 as in
my case. Also everyone seems to have a different error code. Anyone have
any work arounds. Is this update necessary?

I seem to get different error codes each time I try to install this update.
Don't know if that helps. This really buggs me because the update app is
constantly in the tray now :(

RE: Security update for SQL Server Pack 2(KB948109)

Hey Mattb,

Sorry about the link, it wasn't intentional. I'm new at the discussion
group, registerd today actually. I thought that link should be there, was
there by default, got confused a little. Thought that was Microsoft's way of
including the previous comment so that I couldn't edit it?

Anyway, I fixed the problem. It turns out to be the built in DEP. The
0xC0000005 error code is because the program looks for a NULL in the memory
to end itself, and results in DEP to shut it down because it thinks it is a
virus/malware. You can temporarily disable DEP and then install the update.

Hope this helps :)

Yes, I have tried to install this update many, many times, and have received
the
same error code, 0x737D. It seems a lot of people are experiencing this same
issue. Hopefully, MS will take note and offer us a solution.

maybe one solution is to report the problem to the news media,,,

like CNN,,, and complain that MS is not fixing their problem,,,

maybe "Steve Balmer" should assign a task force , to fix these problems

instead of everyone opening another incident report

well i would not say go that far, as we know the media can mess things up
worst.lol also for all the years i have been using MSos this is one of maybe
a couple of times I had trouble installing Bill's and company software. Keep
up the good work MS and let get this issue behind us.:)

RE: Security update for SQL Server Pack 2(KB948109)

Same problem here. No apparent useful solution. This is on a remote server
so I can't boot into "safe mode" as one unhelpful suggestion seemed to
indicate.

I hope this isn't critical because it's *not* getting installed until
Microsoft fix the update so it works properly or come up with a useable
workaround.

I wonder if they know if an update is failing automatically, that would be
handy if not.

I have the same problem and took it to Windows Update suppoprt! What a joke.
I was told that I would have to go to SQL Server Support and $100/hour to
get them to fix their broken software. Is it just me or is there something
wrong with this picture??

Add another one to the long list of dissatisfied users.

Not only did it not install it stole 110 Mb of disk space trying which it is
not giving back.

Anyone else fed up with all this disappearing diskspace

RE: Security update for SQL Server Pack 2(KB948109)

I had the same problem, but after I turned on all the services related to
SQLSever. I was able to update the SP.
To turn on the services:

1. Click on Start, and then Run, type in msconfig, and click on OK.
2. Click on Services tab, and check all the services with the word "SQL" in
it, then click on Ok.
3. You have to restart your computer.

After restarting your computer, try to update again. Hopefully this may help.

If you are unable to update the MS Office, do the same, but turn on "Office
Source Engine".

RE: Security update for SQL Server Pack 2(KB948109)

Sorry but every service that can be turned on is on. There were 3 sql server
services and they were all on. It has been about a month now, I am now
debating the option that the windows update team gave me which was to simply
hide the update so it doesn't keep showing up. This is what I call REAL
customer service!!
