Problem with KB951748 XP Update

I, too, could not get on the net after the KB951748 update. I encourage
Microsoft to do a search on the update so they could see how many hits there
are already, and to take this update off of the critical list. T
hankfully, I do not allow XP to automatically download and install updates.
Otherwise, I might have not been able to find the source of the problem so
quickly.

I'm having the same problem with Windows 2k.

RE: Problem with KB951748 XP Update

Same here. The uodates caused ZoneAlarm to block internet access. I
uninstalled the updates via Add/Remove programs, rebooted, and was boot on.

MS needs to patch these updates to not destroy ZoneAlarm Pro.

On one computer with Comodo Firewall KB951748 installed and internet
connection was fine. On another computer with Zone Alarm free KB 951748
caused internet connection to be lost.

As Zone Alarm is a very widely used firewall I think this board and Microsoft will have a very busy time over the next few days to come up with a fix.

Re: Problem with KB951748 XP Update

Same problem here. Had to do a System Restore and then install updates
one-by-one to determine problem child. KB951748 stopped me from getting
online. Major problem. Microsoft better fix it.

RE: Problem with KB951748 XP Update

I too installed the updates and lost internet connectivity. I finally
narrowed the problem down to the updates. I used system restore and installed
each download individually. I found KB951748 to be the one causing my
problem. I was able to reconnect as soon as I uninstalled it via add/remove
programs. This should be looked into as I have never before had problems with
my automatic updates.

Both of my machines, one SP2 and one SP3, had problems with Zonealarm and
this update. Uninstalled the update and connectivity was back.....for now.

All 3rd party software f/w apps are snake oil; Uninstall it! Use the
in-build f/w version in conjunction with SecinfigXP.

Do yourself a favour and uninstall ZA, uninstall it! Use the in-build f/w
version in conjunction with SecinfigXP.

RE: Problem with KB951748 XP Update

After downloading and installing the three updates available as of 07/08/08 I
found that I could no longer access the internet. My wireless connection was
perfect, I even used the Microsoft Diagnostic Tool, and it said that there
was an issue with my router or my ISP. I did System Restore, which fixed the
problem, went onto Microsoft.com and did the 3 updates one at a time untill i
discovered that Security Update for Windows XP (KB951748) was the issue.
Microsoft, please fix this update.

What for? For providing a horribly broken software to their uninformed
users?

> Would MS be that fast in providing solutions?

It's not MSFT's responsibility providing solutions for broken 3rd party
software.

You would have thought ZA would have checked their software to see if it is
properly coded prior releasing it to their uninformed users.
Rest assured that ZA was fully aware of the 'Patch Tuesday' security
updates but chose to do nothing about it.
Best solution:

Re: Problem with KB951748 XP Update

Go Kayman. Is that a chip on your shoulder or do you just believe that MS is
God and can do no wrong?

Your attitude toward third party vendors only compounds the anger people
feel when their perfectly operating PCs are totally stuffed up by MS updates.

A little tact and diplomacy may make the great "uniformed" slightly more
sympathetic to the great way MS treats its customers.

Cheers mate. Have a cup of tea and a good lie down.

How can I stop KB951748 repeatedly installing itself? Uninstalling manually
is a pain. Its killing my ZoneAlarmpro that has worked pefectly till now, and
losing my net access and emails, and keeps reinstalling itself when I'm not
looking!
Many thanks for info.
