Unable to start automatic updates service.

    Hi folks,

this is the first time i'm using your help here, and i hope you can help me.

I installed WSUS 3.0 on a vmware server, and configured all the updates i
want to download, and waited two days, and still i can't see my clients (and
some of my servers) appearing in the wsus

i downloaded the wsus server utils, and ran them on the server and i got the
"pass" results on the wsus server.

when i started checking out clients (windows xp sp2) with the wsus client
tool util, i got this message: "could not start the automatic updates service
on local computer error 0x8004015 the class is configured to run as a
security id different from the caller"

we are working in Active directory enviroment, with windows 2003 servers...
the WSUS is n the DMZ, and not in our lan maybe this is a part of the
    problem but i dought that.

hope to hear from you soon,

    Best regards,
    Nahum
    Israel

You will need to be sensible and go to the WSUS newsgroup.
Winfried Sonntag posted two client cure commands for you there,
but he trimmed TaurArian's crosspost so it doesn't show up here.

Suggest you let him know whether it worked or not.

Re: Unable to start automatic updates service.

Some day I'll learn to test links before posting them.
Use your default newsreader instead of the web interface -
copy the following line into your browser's address window:
    news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...pdate_services

That should open the WSUS newsgroup in OE probably,
after you key Enter or click the Go button. I apologise that
the communities link I gave required you to find the group.

Re: Unable to start automatic updates service.

    Hi michael,

i belive that i'm in the right forum, because all the questions i see here
    are about wsus.
if you still think i'm asking quesions in the wrong answer, i'll be happy to
get a direct link to the wsus newsgroups, but i've done some digging and i'm
prety much sure i'm in the right place.

now, about the two clients cure that winfried sonntag wrote can you tell me
if those clients can fix the problem i described?

    thanx,
    Nahum

    "D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWR PWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)"

    sc sdset wuauserv
    "D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWR PWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)"

Re: Unable to start automatic updates service.

You want to wait for Sonntag, rather than trying it out. OK.
