Not quite because there is NO KB837286.
800F0900 CBS_E_XML_PARSER_FAILURE
The above error would mean the OS is Vista or WS 2008 since they use
Component Based Servicing.
Then post the correct KB number and any other relevant information so
that someone can assist you.
Sorry, it was a typo. It's KB 937286
No problem. There is not much to go on in regards to the error code.
The MSKB, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937286, recommends a *manual
installation* of the updated Help files.
Download and save the updated Help files.
When the download completes, close all open programs and browsers.
*RIGHT* click the download and choose 'Run as administrator'
Approve the prompts and hopefully, it will install now.
That doesn't seem to work either, manual installation fails. It doesn't say
that I've already got the update, it just says "failed".
Let's see if there is any information in Event Viewer that may provide a
clue as to why the update failed to install.
Go to Start > Run > type in the following and click OK or press Enter
eventvwr.msc
Applications and Services Log > Microsoft > Windows >
WindowsUpdateClient > Operational
Please post the contents of the .xml entry for the failed installation
of KB937286.
Just received the same error resulting from an attempt to manually install an
unknown update. Below is my xml file.

The cause of the installation failure *may* be caused by a corrupted
edb.chk file [transaction log].
I'm not 100% sure about where these transaction logs reside in Vista.
First, try renaming the copy in
WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot2
*RIGHT* click edb.chk and choose 'Rename'
Name it edb.old
Now try to install the *manually* downloaded copy of KB937286
* IF a message comes up that the file is being used, open the Services
console and STOP the Windows Update service, then rename edb.chk
Manage services in Windows Vista
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...01bf71033.mspx
IF you've had to stop the WU service in order to rename edb.chk,
suggest you also rename Tmp.edb to Tmp.old, also, while the service has
been stopped.
After renaming the above, Start the WU service. *
If no joy, rename the copy of edb.chk in
WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs
Try another manual installation of KB937286
Did that get it installed ?
Did you rename ALL the transaction logs in ALL the locations listed in
the KB article ?
If so, I repeat:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...a-110948c001c1
If the system has a persistent online connection then the update is NOT
needed.
Yep, tried both WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot2 and
WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs. No go.
I've tried everything, and I keep getting error 800f0900. How do I go about
installing the update?

Can you help ME
I apparently got rid of the 800F0900 error on my Vista Home Basic by
installing Microsoft's System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821) -
'Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for
Windows Server 2008, and for Windows 7'
for months, many updates gave me that error, but after installing
KB947821, SP2 installation succeeded at first try.
