This update won't install. It has to do with IE7 which I don't use or the
Validation tool.

I need the KB number for the "genuine advantage" update, please.

What "tools" did you use? Did you just (re)install Windows? Is Automatic
Updates enabled?

I have the same problem with update KB944338. Automatic updates warns me to
download every day and every day it fails to instal, with this error code.
Oddly, if I check for updates on the Microsoft Update site, it does not list
this as an update to be installed even on the "custom button" list. (Windows
XP SP2, IE7 installed, Zone Alarm Plus firewall.)

Apparently either the installation of IE7 did not install the proper
versions of jscript and vbscript.dll or somehow the files were later
reverted to a lower Version level.
Zone Alarm Plus might be the cause of the former occurring.

Download, *save*, close all browsers/programs/applications, and then
install Windows Script 5.7:

Doing so will mitigate the vulnerabilities patched by KB944338 as
Windows Script 5.7 is not affected:

*You finally answered me question (albeit not in a reply to any of my posts
where I asked it)!*

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.

Followed method 1 and 2 it didn't work. Method 1 result: "loadlibrary
failed--module could not be found"
Method 2 download tried to install and came back "not needed, already
installed.
Sorry I replied in the wrong place. I'm new to this site and probably wasn't
paying attention to what I was doing.
