And why would one try to install it in SP1 ? Because the KB does not specify that the patch is applicable only to pre-SP1 builds of Vista. I've had Microsoft support try to make me install similar pre-SP1 patches over the last week (in one thread running to 22 messages so far). The latest Windows Update agent run with /wuforce also fails with the 80073712 error. > Jumping into another's thread can be hazardous to the OS' health if one > is not careful. At the very bottom of the KB article there's no listing of KB947821 being applicable to any Vista SP1 : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 APPLIES TO • Windows Vista Ultimate • Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit Edition • Windows Vista Enterprise • Windows Vista Enterprise 64-bit Edition • Windows Vista Business • Windows Vista Business 64-bit Edition • Windows Vista Home Premium • Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit Edition • Windows Vista Home Basic • Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit Edition Going by this entry: > 2008-03-10 08:13:25:424 3428 994 Handler FATAL: CBS called Error with > 0x80073712 A more descriptive entry of the errors should be in the CBS.log. PSS did check that log, correct ? Is Dreamscene available for download anywhere else besides Automatic, Windows, or Microsoft Update ? They have dozens of log files. If they don't ahve that, they certainly haven't asked for it. > Is Dreamscene available for download anywhere else besides Automatic, > Windows, or Microsoft Update ? No, but the point is moot because PSS have made all updates impossible with the code they've made me run. |
