BITS won't start! Can't download any updates?!

I have XP Pro on my laptop and have just discovered that my updates have
failed to load since June 2007?! So - I have gone into the Services area and
switched the Startup type to Auto. and then I click on Start - It doesn't
start - it gives me the following error:

    ---------------------------
    Services
    ---------------------------
Could not start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service service on Local
    Computer.

Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.
    ----------------------------

I am stuck at this point - I have tried the following post and it helped the
computer to validate Windows - but otherwise didn't help the updates to
install! HELP - I didn't realize that the updates were not working and it's
been almost a year - lots of updates that I need to do!!! UGH! Thanks in
    advance for any help!

    have is OK.... HELP :-(

    ---------------------------
Could not start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service service on Local
Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.
