Thread: Some updates were not installed

Some updates could not be installed

WSUS 3.0 MMC "OVERVIEW - COMPUTER STATUS" pane shows 64 out of 86 "computers
    with errors"

Reviewing UPDATES whose status is "Failed" I see 5 updates in the list.

How should I best resolve this?
In other words, what is the next step when updates from WSUS fail to install?

Review the WindowsUpdate.log on the affected computer(s) to determine why
the installation of the update failed.

I do not know the meaning of what is in the windowsupdate.log.
I think this is the section of the log describing the update failure:

    I need more information

Can you please tell me the error code you receive when you get the update failed message? If it is 80070002 or anything like that, follow these steps:

Well, first of all let me just say that I am not a computer professional. However, I have had the same problem with my 32-Bit Windows Vista Home Premium (making Microsoft's statement null and void) and I have solved it! Here are the step by step instructions:

    1) Go to the Start Menu.
    2) Click on Computer.
    3) Open up the drive where windows is installed (usually your C drive).
    4) Open the Windows Folder.
    5) Scroll down a bit and locate the SoftwareDistribution folder (exactly like that).
    6) Open the Download folder.
    7) Open the Install folder.
    8) There sould only be one file there. Right click on it and select "Run as Administrator".
    9) After entering an Administrator password, run the installation, using the default values and clicking yes at the license.
    10) After the installation is complete (shouldn't take more than a few minutes), restart your computer (as an added precaution, though not necessary).
    11) After the computer restarts again, run Windows Update again. It should run as normal. All fixed!
    I apologize for Microsoft's ineptitude.

Re: Some updates were not installed

    Try this:
    1) First, create a folder in C:\ drive called 'WUAGENT'. Its address:

    C:\WUAGENT

Use this directory to store the Windows Update Agent file (see next step).

2)Use the link below, and downloaded 'WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe' to
    C:\WUAGENT directory:

    http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe

3)Open the Command Prompt and force a re-install of the Windows Update Agent
    with the following command:

    C:\WUAGENT\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce

    I hope this is helpful.

Re: Some updates were not installed

    Thank You Joan!
I used method one (1) to correct updates not installing on a new install of
Win XP Pro, after upgrading to SP3. Windows Update, Microsoft Updates, and
Auto Updates all failed and there was history of the attempted install.
    Thanks Alot.
