This error message popped up for me also. Please help me figure out what to do.

Are you referring to Office 2007 SP1?

How to troubleshoot failures updating your Office installation from the
    Office Update Web site:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304498

Microsoft KB articles are nice, but I'm sure you want a concrete suggestion:

Try right clicking on Computer (or even for XP, right click My Computer) and
select Manage, then to Servics and Applications, then to Services, scroll
down to Office Source Engine and right click and select Start, then retry.

If that doesn't work, try deleting the contents of
c:\windows\softwaredistribution and restart and then try again.

If that doesn't work, try installing the udates individually (i.e. in the
windows update window, look for the KB number that failed and go to
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/numberhere and look for a link for IT
Professionals, which should have a link to the "component" you are looking
for; i.e. look for a link next to the KBnumberhere)--then restart and retry
windows update (which may not have any updates, but then you know you jumped
    the hurtle).

For whatever reason, the process msiexec.exe gets stuck open. Unfortunately,
it seems to get stuck this way A LOT. All I had to do was open the windows
task manager (alt+ctrl+del), go to processes, select to show processes from
all users, scroll to msiexec.exe (there may even be two of them), and click
End Process. This isn't the first time I've had to do this to get something
to install, either, but it always seems to work for me.

Many thanks for this tip. I found the Service Office Source Engine was not
running. Started it and the update installed. I have now set this service to
    automatic.

    Windows Vista Error 80070652

I tried to help my aunt with her laptop. Windows updates worked fine. But
Norton antivirus wasn't installed properly. I installed it completely (but as
the free trial has expired) i just left it to remind that a new updats needs
to be purchased. She has AVG antivirus instead, which is free. However, now
there seems to be trouble with windows updates after i did the complete
    installation of Norton.

It comes up with error 80070652. I manually installed the 5 updates (when
shutting down the laptop), but when i start it again, there are now more
updates, about 20. Did the same again, shut down and install. When i restart
it it's up to 44 updates not done.

I've goggled around and the error 80070652 (that always comes up) seems to
have to do with Office. She doesn't have Office, she's got Works.

Does anybode know how to solve this problem?

Jennie, first off you can't have 2 instances of antivirus running. You need
to remove one of them. Go to Symantec's site and download the Norton
Removal Tool and run it. Reboot, then try Windows Update. If you still
have no success post your error messages. I believe Works uses components
of Office, so yes, she'll receive Office updates

Back-up any personal data (none of which should be considered 100%
trustworthy at this point) then do a format & clean install of Windows.
Please note that a Repair Install (AKA in-place upgrade) will NOT fix this!

HOW TO do a clean install of Vista: See the "If you want to reinstall
Windows Vista by performing a clean installation..." section of
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...ista#section_3

After the clean install, you'll have the equivalent of a "new computer" so
take care of everything on the following page before otherwise connecting
the machine to the internet or a network and before using a USB key that
    isn't brand-new or hasn't been freshly formatted:

4 steps to help protect your new computer before you go online

NB: Any Norton or McAfee free-trial that came preinstalled on the computer
when you bought it will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is
reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the free-trial and download/run the
appropriate removal tool before installing any Windows Service Packs or IE
upgrades and before installing your new anti-virus application (which will
require WinXP SP3 to be installed).
