MS NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack (KB110806)

Running windows XP Home Service Pack 2. I attempted to do the critical
updates and install .NET Framework 2.0 . The download appears to work but it
hangs up and does not install. I followed the steps as Diana Smith (MSFT)
suggested to DeputyMike but again both setups failed. What are the other
possible steps to get rid of this problem?

I had the same (?) problem with the latest update for .net2. Tried
re-installing all .net versions and/or service packs: now everything was
coming up with errors!
Read through many posts here and elsewhere; almost tried the cleanup tool
available but then read some disturbing news of systems having to be
re-installed, etc. and decided to re-think it. Didn't want to uninstall all
..Net components either.

Anyway, for me at least, this worked: ran the Windows Installer Cleanup
Tool, highlighted anything labeled Microsoft .Net and removed it. Then went
back to Windows Update page, ran express; as usual it reported the .Net2
update was downloaded and ready to be installed. Told it to install ----- it
did!

And now everything seems back to normal.
Hope it's this easy for others.

The issue can be caused by a damaged .NET Framework component. At this time,
let's refer to the following steps to troubleshoot it:

Step 1: Download Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

1. Visit:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...BD/msicuu2.exe
2. Save the file on the Desktop.
3. Please double click the msicuu2.exe file to install it on the computer.

Step 2: Remove .NET Framework
========================
1. Click Start -> (All) Programs->Windows Installer Clean Up.
2. Please locate and remove all .NET Framework software.

After that, please perform the following suggestions to reinstall .NET
Framework 2.0 and its updates.

Step 3: Reinstall .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package and its
updates

Please download and install the following updates in order.

Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...a/dotnetfx.exe

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (x86)
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...x20SP1_x86.exe

Note: When the "File Download" window appears, please click Save, and follow
the directions to save the file on the Desktop. After downloading all the
setup files, please double-click on each one to install them.

I have a problem with your instructions:

a) I have Win Vista, so Net 2 cannot be un/installed
b) Neither SP1 or SP2 can be applied
c) Tried uninstalling 3.5, ok, then cleanup, then Win Update, ok

but the problems are not solved nor SP2 is installed. The issue is that
I'm using a DLL compiled in .Net SP2, so it doesn't run in Vista...

Any ideas?
I've lost the last 2 days... it's awfull, I hope that Microsoft does it
better with Win 7...
