Error 8007007E while installing KB941649 Patch

I've been trying to install this patch on Windows Vista since it's release
tuesday and I keep getting a failed status after it does all it's normal
rebooting. The error is 8007007E apparently undocumented, unless someone can
point me in the right direction.

    Thanks!

Some users have cured the problem by just re-registering the wuapi.dll
Click start, select Run and then type: regsvr32 wuapi.dll
    Try Windows Update again

If that hasn't help you will need to re-register some more files (click OK after each one
and wait for the successful message):-

    regsvr32 Inseng.dll
    regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
    regsvr32 Ole32.dll
    regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
    regsvr32 Mssip32.dll

    Note: not for IE7

This is for Ted Cooper as he is using WinXP.

    I have nothing for Vista.

RE: Error 8007007E while installing KB941649 Patch

    Hi

Same problem here... Any update ?

Please note that I think I installed it before it appeared on WU. Maybe a
    lead.

I wanted to remove this patch and install it again through WU, but I can't
find it in the list of installed patches !

In the error log there is something about WLAN... any idea ?

Should i post my windowsupdate.log file to help ?

    Matt

RE: Error 8007007E while installing KB941649 Patch

I am getting the same problem on Vista Home Premium using Microsoft update.
I tried to solve it by installing the patch direct from KB941649 web page.
That said it installed successfully but the seemingly same patch from
Microsoft update still wants to install every time I boot up, but then fails.
I hope Microsoft are going to fix this soon.

No-one seems to really have the answer - will it ever be sorted out? Manual
install no good, going round in circles. Perhaps if I hide the update it
won't try to install it every day?

I have this same error. I unchecked the KB941649 update and installed the
other updates (i.e. KB941600, KB941229, and KB905866) which all installed
successfully.I then Installed the download patch for KB941649 (the 64 bit
versio since I'm using the x64 version of Vista Home Premium). It says it
installed successfully but still tries to install through Windows Update. But
now I get an error 80070426 when it fails installation instead of the
8007007e error code. Could this change in error code be because I by-passed
it and installed the other updates first or is the change of error code due
to installing the download patch and then trying to install the Windows
    update for KB941649?

I don't know if the other people who still have problem installing this
update are getting a change in error code. But maybe all of you Vista Gurus
out there might know something of this error code because all I can find
pertaining to this error code is that a service isn't started. I don't know
which one or how to get it started.

RE: Error 8007007E while installing KB941649 Patch

May be I am off topic a little. I don't have problem installing the KB941649
and KB941600 on both my old desktop and new laptop using Window Update.
However, I did not observe any improvement with these two patches. Actually
they did the oppsite. My USB wireless mouse and Bluetooth dongle won't start
unless removing and installing the dungles again. On the laptop, I had the
first unexpected reboot after wakeup in a month. I have removed both pathes
and both computers work fine again. My impression is that if your computer
    works fine, don't fix it.

Then the moral of this story is to not trust MS updates.
You do not have to download any update if you do not want to - you do have a
    choice.
To blindly accept anything from MS can only end in tears - like those who
accepted upgrades thinking they were updates because they came on Black
    Tuesday.
I have 14 such pieces in the Hidden Folder for stuff I do not have in my
    system and probably never will.

Hm, looking at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941649/en-us and the Known
Issues section there, me thinks it might be related to a missing Prefetch
subfolder in the Windows folder. Although the MSKB article states, that
those downloading and installing KB931649 via Windows Update or the MS-
DownloadCenter that may be something to look after.

Since I'm not using Vista (nor will unsolicited), I don't know whether
there's still a KB941649.log file in the Windows folder. I even don't know,
whether MSU files support parameter "/o" or "/oemoverwrite" (haven't found
a complete list of parameters for MSU files/wusa.exe yet).

    Bye,
    Freudi
