Windows Vista Premium Error 8024402C

Hi, I am pulling my hair out. I have disabled all virus software, turned off
firewall and carried out the fix suggested by Microsoft in IE of automatic
settings but windows update still brings back this error.

Does anyone have any ideas? The net works fine otherwise through my adsl
router.

Re: Windows Vista Premium Error 8024402C

Windows version is...?

If you bypass the router and connect directly to the ADSL modem, does the
behavior persist?

Courtesy of MVP TauArian:

When searching for available updates on the Update site, you receive the
0x8024402C error
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...cleid=30&ln=en
A misconfigured Proxy/Firewall can cause this problem. Double-check the
Proxy/Firewall
settings

You may receive an error message when you search for available updates on
the Windows Update Web site or on the Microsoft Update Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883821

You may receive a "0x8024402C" error message when you scan for updates on
the Windows

Re: Windows Vista Premium Error 8024402C

Hi, it is a fresh instal of Vista Premium that was activated over the phone.

I have a netcomm NB54PLUSW. I have connected it via USB with no luck. Also
connected directly with ethernet. Failed on Wireless also.

Not sure what is wrong. Hope this helps.

Re: Windows Vista Premium Error 8024402C

If connected directly to the Internet or to a home network -

Open Internet Explorer and click the Tools menu, select Internet Options, click the
Connections tab and now click LAN settings.

Under Automatic configuration, select the Automatically detect settings check box, and
then click OK.

Re: Windows Vista Premium Error 8024402C

For your Wireless Router - in the security tab, make sure you aren't blocking AcitveX
Check the manual that came with the netcomm and make sure that the inbuilt firewall isn't
blocking WU.

Re: Windows Vista Premium Error 8024402C

At least temporarily, change the dns servers

try openDNS
https://www.opendns.com/start

follow the instructions for your connection (router or PC)

Now try it--does it make a difference?

I find this is sometimes a mis-configured DNS server by your ISP

I have the same problem, same windows version, and the same modem. Did you
figure out how to fix it?

fIx for Windows Update_8024402C Windows Update error

To fix this problem with updates.

go to Internet Explorer, Right click, Properties..select Lan settings,
check box for " Automatically detect settings", click OK 2 times... finished.
Check again for updates . Should pull them successfully.

I had the same problem and spent many hours in front of the computer trying
to fix it. I don't know if you solved it yet, but here is how I fixed it.
Go to control panel, network and internet, network and sharing center,
manage network connections, select the connection, go to diagnose this
connection, an error came up saying there was a problem with the IP settings
and from there it can automatically reconfigure itself to the correct
settings.

This worked for me. Specifically, I had to click the button stating "Obtain
DNS Server address automatically" rather than "use the following DNS server
address."
