Windows update updates download but wont install!!!

Hey Gerry,

Follow these easy steps:

1. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 wuapi.dll

2. When you receive the message that the DLL has been registered, click OK
and perform the same steps for each of the following commands under Start >
Run:
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

This should do the trick.

i HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR A WEEK TO GET THE DOWNLOADS AND INSTALLS WORKING, WHEN
I RAN THE .DLL FILES IT WORKED THANKS

Spent 2 hrs on the phone with Dell with same issue.. their solution was a
full reinstall.. Fattdaddy just saved my ass.. as simple and fast fix.. thanks

Many thanks. I had reinstalled XP twice and wasted too many hours -- all to
no avail. Updates still would not work.

i tried doing the command prompt thing. and my computer seems to be missing
one of the files:

RegsSvr32
LoadLibrary("wulcltui.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found.

I wonder how come this was required, since I installed the computer fresh and never got to do any of this ever since I use XP meaning 6 years!

I have had the same trouble several times and have yet to find a proper fix.
I have found a work around through trial and error that seems to work.
When you get to the updates to select, CLEAR ALL and just choose the first 10.
Download, install these and restart. Continue updating with only 10 selected and all works well.
I have been through ALL the forms I can find, and nothing has worked. So playing around I stumbled on this method .
I know it takes A LOT LONGER but at least it works.
Try it and see if it works for you.

Thanks Fattdaddy, i run a repair shop and the machines i have built lately
have all had this issue. Thanks for the fix, any idea why this is happening?
