Re: Update KB936181 "successful" almost daily since 8/14/07...

I have a fresh install of Vista and was constantly getting a windows
installer failure message of "Error opening installation log file". The log
file had not been created on my laptop and there was nothing for me to
    uninstall.

The solution (obvious in hind sight) was to download the patch exe and then
right click and run as administrator.

Sorry - downloading the executable from the link provided failed?

If so, this indicates you have a problem with your web browser or internet
connection. What web browser are you using?

(This might also be caused by malware.)

RE: Update KB936181 "successful" almost daily since 8/14/07...

I just started getting the KB936181 notices today (8/14/08), but, unlike the
original poster, I am running Windows XP/Pro SP3 on a fairly new machine.
With the apparent exception of 936181 my system is up-to-date.

    Any thoughts?

Update KB936181 "successful" almost daily since 8/14/07... MORE

For what it is worth, it is popping up every few hours. Also, I checked for
installed software and I couldn't find it in the list via the Control Panel.
The Belarc Advisor was used to scan for any missing security updates, and it
flagged this as missing with a link to this URL:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q936181

For what it is worth, there was NO such error flagged before I installed SP3
    !!

The cited URL gives some specific steps, which I intend to follow when I get
a few minutes of slack time; alas, work takes priority. Any
    comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

See this: Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service
Pack 2 (KB936181) may repeatedly appear in the update list on Microsoft
    Update or on Windows Update
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941729

If you can not rename msxml4.dll while in normal Windows mode suggest
you boot to Safe Mode and rename it from a Command Prompt from within there.

The issue *migh* be caused by the installation of printer/all-in-one
software after KB936181 was applied as it should be listed in Add/Remove
    Programs.

I had that problem too, solved it by saving the file to my desktop and then
right clickingit and using Run as Administrator

What ever i do its not working ... if any one knew the solution how to get
rid of that prompt please lemme know.

Download the update (from the download center) and install it while booted to
    safe mode.

I'm having the exact same trouble and it will not allow me to fix it. What
brand and model is your laptop?
