Hello Michele,
0x80080008

If you are running XP, This will probably be your solution it is easy and
can't hurt
Try Dial-a-Fix
Just had this happen to me today
Repair install
needs 81 patches
Once the MU v .381 engine gets on there, be prepared to manually do this
to get it to install anything
You receive a "0x800A01AE" error message or a "0x080070570" error
message when you try to connect to the Windows Update Web page or to the
Microsoft Update Web page in Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP:

1. Do you have the latest WU client, if not follow this article -
The Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site do not scan
for updates when you repair a failed installation of Windows XP Service Pack
2 or of Windows XP Service Pack 1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916259
If 1 above is okay, then try re-registering some files:-
2. Click Start, select run and type the following (pressing okay after each
one):-
net.exe stop wuauserv
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
net.exe start wuauserv
Thank you, Engel.
This helped me! I've been searching for an answer for what seems like forever!
Dial- A- Fix helped me install the 87 updates that hadn't worked for sometime
and now my system is bogged down for minutes on end when I first start up.
I don't know if it's got to do with the Dial- A- Fix or one or two of the
updates that were installed that day. I read on one of the other message
boards about it being related to WU and it consuming a lot of resources on
start up to check for updates. Task Manager reads CPU 100% and mostly
because of SVCHOST.EXE. Any suggestions, anyone?
this is very helpful since i had about 100 updates after a restore off of the
sytem install disk since i had to put the original systems harddrive on a new
motherboard and system and the hotfixes would not install my only question
now will windows put out a fix for this error so when you do a system restore
you wont have this problem in the future
you did a system *recovery* not a system restore
Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!! you information fixed the problem I was
having updating my computer. Thanks again
deleteing the KB files in windows directory and or any QXB files will
generally acomplish the same task as stopping the dll system 32 files you
suggest and its easier just delete and reboot.
microsoft tech mrcbinc
It worked for me after a repair install and a CD based SP3 and I.E. 7
install.
I saved the commands into a batch file, adding only a pause statement just
prior to net.exe start wuauserv
Works Like a champ!!
Thanks again,
PVM
