MICROSFT WINDOWS Host process for windows services stopped working

    Hi ,

I have a problem in my Vista Ultimate,

“MICROSFT WINDOWS Host process for windows services stopped working and was
    closed

a problem caused the application to stop working correctly

Windows will notify you if a solution is available.”

then there is a close button, and I click on that and nothing happens.

I also notice that when this happens, my internet connection slows
considerably, and I have to reboot the computer to try and correct this.
I have tried to Google this problem and I find a solution by Microsoft at
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940520
I will do the things in methods and delete the files, and after rebooting,
again the files appear and the Problem suffers me too!

    What should I do?

    Amir,

See if this helps to resolve the issue:

The host process for Windows Services stops working after you download
Microsoft updates on a computer that is running Windows Vista

Forget that last post, Amir. What is the installed antivirus software ?

That would appear to be the most likely culprit for data corruption
    in the SoftwareDistribution folder.
Configure it to NOT scan nor monitor that folder for now and see if that
    helps to resolve the issue.

I have the same problem. I get the following messages...

HP Digital Imaging Monitor has stopped working
Host Process for Windows Services stopped working and was closed
Data Ececution Prevention closed Host Process for Windows Services

After all this my network connected HP printer is not available and I have
to re-install it. I use McAfee protection and my laptop has hardware DEP
support (whatever that means) I've tried excluding "Host Services etc." from
the DEP control but can't find this progam anywhere to add the the exclusuion
    list.

This whole process happens every few days and MIGHT be connected with my ISP
dynamically changing the network id (174.xxx.etc.) It's getting annoying and
its not clear who to blame. HP? McAfee? my ISP? DEP? some thing else?
    Somebody please figure this out.

Ouch. Vista not installed here and I'm learning about it along with
    you.
Did you visit Kaspersky's forums to see if this issue is connected with
KAV ? It may not be, but one always holds out hope.
    http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?act=idx

I perused the 'Protection for Home Users' forum and did not see it
posted, but it was a quick perusal. <w>

I too have the same issue - every few days my printer that is on my wireless
network is not available and has to be reinstalled. Host Process for Windows
Services stops working periodically. I do not notice a slowing of my
    internet connection.

I use Norton 360. Does anyone have a solution for this issue?

I too get this error message. I run Vista. Here's a possible clue: like
another person posting here, I have an HP all-in-one, which is supported by a
huge program. I wonder... Has anyone figured this out yet?

The very same thing is happening to me, too. HP wireless printer that I had
to re-install as the printer "disappeared" after the initial installation. I
get the same error message "host process..." Internet connection slows to a
crawl or stops all together. Vista Home Premium. The same scenario...and no
    solution. Please help!

Host proces for windows services stopped working on my computer too. I have
an HP PHotosmart all in one C7180wireless printer. I have had problems with
the HP software and my scanner has stopped working too.
It does not look like anyone has solved this issue YET. I will check at
the HP website. Have spoken with a number of HP techs and they are unfamiliar
with the problem. AFTER HOURS of being on the phone with them. grrrrrrrr.

Why do you think MS is the responsible party? Why are you posting your
    questions in Windows Update newsgroup?

ms should at least address this issue. i have the same printer networked to
an xp pc, and have no problem. i have another pc networked with with the
printer running vista home basic....no problem. the issue seems to be with
vista premium. if this is an hp issue, then ms should say so. not much to
ask from the leader in the industry. another post said she has made ms aware
of this issue via phone. i don't believe she has had a response. i posted
this issue here because that's the topic!

Unless uninstalling an update resolves the behavior, I'm afraid the problem
has nothing to do with Windows Update.

If you want to bring something to MS's attention, these peer-to-peer support
public newsgroups won't accomplish that. See
