    Realtek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter

Windows Update was displaying an "optional" installation for which I decided
to install it. Ever since this Optional installation was done, whenever I
shutdown Windows Vista, it won't shut down anymore. It just sits there with
the Shutting Down displaying and my HDD constantly working.

I've even disabled the WiFi device in "Network and Sharing Center" and the
    problem persists.

I've verified if I can rollback the WiFi driver and Rollback is disabled
    (greyed-out).

Does anyone know of this problem with this "Certified Windows Optional
    Update"?

And how do I rollback that particular Optional Update?

Below is a copy of the "View Update History" for that particular update:

Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Networking - Realtek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11g
    54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter

    Installation date: ‎16/‎08/‎2007 8:15 PM

    Installation status: Successful

    Update type: Optional

Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Networking software update released in July, 2007

    Hi there,

Boot last known good configuration or use system restore.

Taking driver update from windows update is really not a good idea unless
you like having problems. An excpetion is there for MS hardware.

If your hardware works fine leave it be working fine. If a driver update is
needed because the hardware does not funtion well you should download an
appropite driver at the manufacturers website in this
    case realtek.

    Best regards,
    Michel Denie

    Thanks Michel,

Yeah, I ended up doing a System Restore point.

Since I had done so may other things on top of that, it would not restore
any points I would try through Windows normal system restore. My only other
option was to slap in the original Windows Vista Ultimate disk into the DVD
Drive and reboot with it, to access the System Restore and reselect my
initial restore I wanted. This way was successful.

Thanks again for a prompt response!
