Vista Update Error 80004002
Hi

Unable to run windows update receive error message 0x80004002

Please see WindowsUpdate log, I'm not sure what it is telling me.

Any help would be much appreciated:-

Re: Vista Update Error 80004002
Try installing the latest version of the Windows Update Agent.
Download it from here and *save* it:

x86 [32 bit]
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe

x64 [64 bit]
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x64.exe

After the download completes stop the Automatic Updates service [Windows
Update service in Vista] via the Services console
Close all programs and browsers
Right click WindowsUpdateAgent30-xXX.exe and choose 'Run as administrator'
After the WUA installs, restart the Windows Update service via the
Services console
Did that resolve the issue ?

I'm having problems installing updates as well. I get a 8000FFFF error when I
try to install any Vista update. I installed the new Update Agent according
to your directions and it also failed with an 8000FFFF error.

I've installed the latest Agent but still get the error 80004002 & now get
80080005.

80004002 indicates E_Nointerface

Unfortunately, the above does not reference Vista. In fact, MS has no
documentation that pertains to Vista concerning the 80004002 error
80080005 *may* be the error code that matters the most as it can be
associated with BITS and Permissons issues.
I suspect that's the problem but do not have a cure for it with Vista.

Which antivirus software is installed and which firewall is being used ?
Is the system on a network at home ?

The above *might* be the source of this issue. The cure may be to run
the system file checker due to one of the above factors or to adjust the
router's settings.
