RE: Code 80073712

I had the same issue with the black screen and or blue screen a while ago. It
had nothing to do with the code. It was a seperate issue with my home
networking. It had to do with my internet usb cord. It was not compatable
with vista. You may want to check or see if they have a new driver for it if
you are using a box or etc from a older style internet service. (I am still
using 2 wire) it is the only one that works in our house. I just reinstalled
my driver for it and the problem went away. Maybe that will help. Take
care...

Solution found! (Error 80073712)

Hi NAOMI and anybody else wanting to resolve this error. There is after all, a fix so you don't have to keep updating manually and can restore automatic updates.

Basically you have to delete the file "pending.xml", restart your PC and reinstall the Windows Update Installer.

I take no credit for this, but having tried it myself (after suffering the same error) I can confirm it does indeed work!

Please click these other threads:
HERE
and
HERE.

If like me you are a technophobe, don't worry here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Click the Start icon and in the search field type "winsxs".

2. Double click this folder and scroll down to the file "pending.xml".

3. Right click it and select "Properties".

4. Under the "Security" tab, select "Advanced"

5. Highlight your User Account name from the list and click "Edit..."

6. Repeat 5.

7. Check the box marked "Full control". Then "OK" (x4).

8. You can now delete the file "pending.xml". Make a back up copy if you wish and paste it somewhere else just in case!

9. Restart your PC (on boot up it should no longer say "Configuring Updates..." any more).

10. Download the Windows Update Installer. Once downloaded, you may want to move it from your download folder to somewhere else. I moved it to where the Windows Update File (wuapp.exe) was to start with: C:\Windows\System32 (it worked fine). Double click it to install.

Done!

Update your comp!

Re: Code 80073712

Thanks for your note tinstar. I really appreciate at it but seeing i do not
have a pending.xml file i could not try this fix. I double checked to see
under the " winsxs". I will tell you that on my windows update, when i push
to update. It does say Install new windows update software and when i try to
the same error comes up each and every time. That was why i gave up and did
it manually. Better to be protected then not protected. When the guy from
windows contacted me he told me to do a bunch of stuff and i think he had me
to what you wrote below but it did not fix the problem. I am glad it worked
for you. I am still waiting to hear back but like everything in this world it
on their time not mine. Thanks again for your help. I do appreciate it. Take
care !!!

Aww shucks...

Sorry to hear that. At the risk of sounding patronising, you have searched for the file "pending.xml"? Strange that it's not there?

Well, good luck - at least you can bypass the error although not ideal. Let's hope Micro$oft get their finger out!

Re: Code 80073712

I also have no pending.xml, is it possible that this is what is causing the
problem?

If someone can email this to me as well it would be helpful, thankyou.
