| error code 0x80004002 not installed, 77updates won't down load
I have had considerable problems with microsoft updates. It turns up that there is 77 updates. It showed the above error, but I then noticed these were already downloaded, and the ones that were to be installed were empty programs, so you just keep trying to download nothing, and 77 nothings. |

I'm having the identical problem. net.exe and regsvr32 did not fix it. Errors first started showing up with Windows Installer when I tried to install a new version of Palm desktop. So I reinstalled Windows XP from my installation disk. Then the first time I ran Window Update, it downloaded and installed Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1. Thereafter, it wouldn't install any further updates. A look at windowsupdate.log shows the following: 2007-08-03 21:48:33:937 2912 bd8 Misc =========== Logging initialized (build: 7.0.6000.374, tz: -0400) =========== 2007-08-03 21:48:33:937 2912 bd8 Misc = Process: C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe 2007-08-03 21:48:33:937 2912 bd8 AUClnt FATAL: Error: 0x80004002. wuauclt handler: failed to spawn COM server 2007-08-03 21:48:33:953 1844 860 Handler FATAL: 0x80004002: ERROR: Remote update handler container process created (PID: 2912), but exited before signaling event 2007-08-03 21:48:33:984 1844 3f4 Report REPORT EVENT: {9A2DD1D0-75BB-4902-BB28-7CB132472B82} 2007-08-03 21:48:28:984-0400 1 162 101 {F5C14DBC-E5BC-432B-9293-E03B5FD7B678} 103 0 WindowsUpdate Success Content Download Download succeeded. 2007-08-03 21:48:33:984 1844 860 Agent * WARNING: Exit code = 0x80004002 "TaurArian [MS-MVP]" wrote: > Try the following:- > > Click Start, select run and type the following (pressing okay after each one):- > > net.exe stop wuauserv > > regsvr32 wuapi.dll > regsvr32 wups.dll > regsvr32 wuaueng.dll > regsvr32 wucltui.dll > regsvr32 MSXML3.dll > > net.exe start wuauserv > > Reboot. > > > -- > ==================================== > TaurArian [MS-MVP] 2005-2008 - Australia > ==================================== > How to make a good post: http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm > Defending your machine: http://defendingyourmachine2.blogspot.com/ > http://taurarian.mvps.org/index.htm > > Emails will not be acknowledged - please post to the newsgroup so all may benefit. > > > "badddd" <badddd@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:2E1386C2-8967-43C1-8B5C-15064DD69C9C@microsoft.com... > |I have had considerable problems with microsoft updates. Hey, thanks! You just did something that people at microsoft supposed tech's couldn't do in accumulated 10 plus hours on the phone, and messing around with the help/support for ever. baddd "TaurArian [MS-MVP]" wrote: > Try the following:- > > Click Start, select run and type the following (pressing okay after each one):- > > net.exe stop wuauserv > > regsvr32 wuapi.dll > regsvr32 wups.dll > regsvr32 wuaueng.dll > regsvr32 wucltui.dll > regsvr32 MSXML3.dll > > net.exe start wuauserv > > Reboot. I have what appears to be the identical issue. I've tried your suggestion several times, but it does not fix the problem. Any further ideas? "TaurArian [MS-MVP]" wrote: > Thanks for the feedback and pleased it worked for you. > K |

You cannot install updates that you download from the Windows Update Web site on a Windows XP-based computer http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=934648 -- ==================================== TaurArian [MS-MVP] 2005-2008 - Australia ==================================== How to make a good post: http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm Defending your machine: http://defendingyourmachine2.blogspot.com/ http://taurarian.mvps.org/index.htm Emails will not be acknowledged - please post to the newsgroup so all may benefit. Thanks for the suggestion. BITS was listed as Started, with a startup type of Manual. I set it to Automatic, rebooted, and tried again. Same error. Any other ideas? Dial-a-Fix was a miracle for me. I spent several hours on the phone with Microsoft technicians and still didn't have my problem with updates resolved. I found this thread. The start and run of regsvr32 files did not work for me. I downloaded Dial-a-Fix and just a little while later my issues were resolved. Thank you, Jerry, and thank you Dial-a-Fix! Jerry, Just a note to say thanks for this link. Experiencing problems with updates that only this utility fixed. Selected to fix windows installer - only installed program shown in update history so thought might be a problem - and windows updates. Worked like a dream. After spending most of the day trying to solve this problem by reading posts and restarting my machine over and over again, etc., Dial-a-Fix solved my problem in about 5-10 minutes. What a score! Thanks. You very likely saved me at least another day of wasted time. ....In my case, my DataStore.edb file appeared to be corrupted. To fix the problem, I told the Dial-a-Fix application to erase this file and then I was able to successfully download and install the pending updates via the Microsoft Update website. Dial-A-Fix will fix most update problems. It should be tried first. It's a wonder to me why it is so rarely mentioned.
