Did you try to download the W2K3 SP2 package from Microsoft Tech Net\Microsoft Downloads and install it manually

Yes, I did download the W2K3 SP2 package from Microsoft Downloads and tried
both methods of installing. The second half of my initial post details this
and includes the relevant log excerpts. A search in the post for
"WindowsServer2003-KB914961-SP2-x86-ENU.exe" will take you to this section.

What about installing it in Safe mode with no connection to your ISP and disabling your AV,Anti Spam filtering and any firewalls like a 3rd party Zone Alarm

Did you every find an answer to this problem. I am having the same one.

No resolution has been found as of this time.

Re: Error 0x8007F0DA installing Server 2003 SP2 to SBS 203 SP1

I am doing this remotely. The SBS server is located on the customer premises
40 miles away from me and I have to arrange physical access at off hours. Are
you recommending Safe Mode with or without Networking? Assuming Safe mode
with Networking, is RDP available? Also, can the server be started in Safe
Mode remotely? If memory serves me correctly, the boot.ini can be altered
for to accomplish the later. The server is behind a NAT router and has no
direct ISP connection. There is no 3rd party AV, Anti Spam nor Firewall
(Exchange IMF and Windows Firewall are used.) Prior to the SP2 install, I
always disable all other 3rd party processes and reboot the server.

Re: Error 0x8007F0DA installing Server 2003 SP2 to SBS 203 SP1

I have spent the quite some time looking at this problem and finally
managed to resolve it on one of the SBS2003 servers I support.

Method 9: Clear the temporary file and restart the hotfix installation
or the service pack installation
Note Skip this method if the operating system is Windows 2000.

To clear the temporary file and restart the hotfix installation or the
service pack installation, follow these steps: 1. Delete all the
tmp*.cat files in the following folders:

%systemroot%\system32\CatRoot\{127D0A1D-4EF2-11D1-8608-00C04FC295EE}

%systemroot%\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}
2. Delete all the kb*.cat files in the following folders:
%systemroot%\System32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}
%systemroot%\System32\CatRoot\{127D0A1D-4EF2-11D1-8608-00C04FC295EE}
3. Delete all the oem*.* files from the %systemroot%\inf folder.
4. At the command prompt, type the following commands. Press ENTER
after each command.
net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2
oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc
exit
5. Restart the failed hotfix installation or service pack installation.

Re: Error 0x8007F0DA installing Server 2003 SP2 to SBS 203 SP1

Bullant75,

i followed your instruction... but i missed to delete oem*.* in the %systemroot%\inf folder. it has installed service pack 2 BUT everything is a mess now.

our SBS 2003 serves as a primary domain controller... it our DNS and DHCP server, default gateway... after the installation and reboot, i can't open mmc... DNS server is not running and all entries are gone. the network manager does not show my network card. though, i can still ping my own ip address (192.168.10.2). the SBS 2003 can not be ping by workstation.

my ultimate question is, is there a way to rollback the changes? i didn't back up my system hoping that everything would be fine. but now, i screwed up everything. i did a back up of CatRoot and CatRoot2 folders. Copied CatRoot folder into my Desktop... Copied CatRoot2 in %systemroot%/system32 and renamed the folder to oldCatRoot2.

copy and paste doesn't work at all now. i can't copy the files from my Desktop\CatRoot to my System32\CatRoot... all files inside are having SA attributes.

i tried uninstalling service pack in add/remove programs but after some time it gives me an error saying that the files/path specified can not be found... something like that... and a message says that service pack has not been successfully uninstalled.

please help.
