| Windows Updates not being installed
When I try to install Vista updates KB935280, KB935807, KB936357, KB933928 & KB 905866 the update fails every time. I get 3 errors 80070002, 800B0100 & 8007371B. I have tried stopping the Update service and removing the files in Software Distribution/Datastore & Download, but the updates still fail. |

Mike, I have the same problem...almost. I installed them one at a time and they all succeeded but KB935807 . I have e-mailed Microsoft and am waiting a reply. I will post here if what they tell me works. |

KB935807 is buggy. Turn auto-updating off and if you must choose to select updates deselect it. I've been going back and forth with MS support on this and everything has failed. Like so many of my friends we have simply turned updating completely off. |

Having the same problem with KB935280 & KB933928 would be grateful for your help if the solution from Microsoft works "John Fairweather" wrote: > > > "mike kay" wrote: > > > When I try to install Vista updates KB935280, KB935807, KB936357, KB933928 & > > KB 905866 the update fails every time. This is what worked for me. Install each one at a time. Those that still fail, download separately, search on the KB not thru windows update. Install one, reboot and repeat as often as needed. Windows update will likely still want you to install them even if succeeded. Right click and hide the update if it has already succeeced. | RE: Windows Updates not being installed
I tried installing 8 updates this morning, and 3 failed with the error code: 80070002 so I followed the following steps: To stop the Windows Update service You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps. 1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative Tools. 2. Double-click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 3. Right-click the Windows Update service, and then click Stop. To delete temporary update files 1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer. 2. Double-click the local hard disk where Windows is installed, typically drive C. 3. Double-click the Windows folder, and then double-click the SoftwareDistribution folder. 4. Double-click the DataStore folder to open it, and then delete all files and folders in the folder. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 5. Click the Back button. In the SoftwareDistribution folder, double-click the Download folder to open it, and then delete all files in the folder. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. To restart the Windows Update service You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps. 1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative Tools. 2. Double-click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 3. Right-click the Windows Update service, and then click Start. But it still fails. Any ideas folks? I've cleaned the registry, and rebooted also. No luck. The updates were: KB936021 KB933579 KB937143 "mike kay" wrote: > When I try to install Vista updates KB935280, KB935807, KB936357, KB933928 & > KB 905866 the update fails every time. Jesus! You wrote all that only to tell us that it failed?!! Anyone get a fix for this or have MS just given up? I have had all my updates since the middle of July fail. I tried the manual downloads described and that wouldn't work either. The downloads came through, but would not install. | RE: Windows Updates not being installed
I went through this whole mess over a month ago. Was in process of working with Microsoft tech via E-Mail support and none of the fixes worked. Then my computer crashed and I was forced to re-load Vista via recovery disc. As part of the recovery, ALL updates were installed including the three I spent weeks on trying unsuccessfully to install. Have not had any problem with automatic update since. Realize this is rather drastic measure, but if you have a solid backup of everything, reloading Vista from scratch will probably take a lot less time than it is taking all of you to try and get a resolution from Microsoft. Obviousloy Microsoft has no answer - as I said they were trying to solve this for me over a month ago.
