    Microsoft Update Error Code 800706BA

I reinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium, a genuine copy which came bundled
with my new Toshiba a few months ago. Before I reinstalled, I was able to
update the old installation as easy as the next person, but now, after the
fact, I see an error message coded "800706BA" whenever I try to start the
update service. It appears that something is preventing the Background
Intelligent Transfer Service from starting properly.

I'm more than a little bit worried about this, as I can't even install
updates manually fro the Download Center. The same error occurs when I try.
Please, I hope someone will answer this post with a solution. I appreciate
any attempts to help. Thank you!

    Rebecca

I just bought a new Toshiba laptop and am setting it up right now. I get the
same error. How am I supposed to update the OS? I also get the error "Host
Process for Windows Services stopped". I am running Windows Vista Home
    Premium. Any help appreciated.

RE: Microsoft Update Error Code 800706BA

I have had my Dell Inspiron 1501 for a few months now and haven't had any
problems with vista home premium and downloading updates. But i am all of a
sudden having the same error Code 800706BA and Background Intelligent
Transfer Service keeps popping up saying it has stopped working, then the
theme of Vista becomes like basic xp style and the updates won't download,
this is a big problem Microsoft, fix it.

I uninstalled the entire McAfee security suite. After rebooting the
computer, windows update started working. Hope this helps others!

This didn't help me. Microsoft, we need a solution! Help!

RE: Microsoft Update Error Code 800706BA

I uninstalled McAfee also, but it didn't change anything. When I hit the try
again button it tells me I need administrator permissions, but I am the
administrator. That is the one and only active type of account on this
computer. I tried to go in and manually start some of the Windows services
that seemed relevant, but that didn't do any good at all. If anything, I'm
getting that 'Host Process for Windows Service stopped working and was
closed' etc. message even more often.

I can't get updates, I can't change my security settings, and since I
uninstalled McAfee, I have little or no protection.

Any help anybody can give would be great. Thanks!

Hi Barb, this isn't a solution, but if you can't get McAfee back, try
downloading AVG Free from grisoft.com. That's what I did, and it's great so
far. But still no clue how to get MS Update to work.

(AVG Free is a 30-day trial, but it'll give us both time to find a totally
free antivirus program that is compatible with Vista)

Did you try to run the program by right klicking it and choosing run as
    administrator?

MS finally came out with a solution... follow this link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940520

It worked like a charm!!! I'm no longer getting the error (800706BA) AND
was able to update my laptop.

    Good luck!

Re: Microsoft Update Error Code 800706BA

Hi all. I've just spend 2 days figuring out what was wrong on my system.
Basically, I've had to check for these:

Windows Security Center Service that Queries with the WMI has to be turned on.
Logical Disk Manager & Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service should also be turned on.
WMDM PMSP service should be turned on.
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) & Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator, both on.

That got mine to work again. I updated messenger as well just to make sure I had the latest one.

"DCom Server Process Launcher" needed to be started and set to automatic.

Start > Run or Windows Key + R
    Services.msc
    Find "Dcom Server Process Launcher"
    Right mouse click, goto Properties.
Set to "Automatic", apply, and then click "Start".
    Click ok, and close Services.

You may need to restart for it to take effect.

I am running Windows XP Pro. Hope this helps somewhat for the people with Vista.

    Good Luck All :)
