Self-update is not working. Event ID:13042

I installed WSUS 3.0 non beta on a Windows 2003 SP2 standard server. This was
a clean installation of WSUS. I am in the debugging stage after the
installation and I have found this error in the application log "Self-update
is not working. Event ID: 13042" I've tried to find the cause of this but am
    currently at a loss.

I thank you in advance for any help.

I have the same problem. The funny thing is that everything actually works
fine. It's just that this error message keeps popping up in my Event Viewer
together with message ID 10021: "The catalog was last synchronized
successfully 1 or more days ago." which is not true as in WSUS console it
shows that it was synchronized few hours ago. Anyone help!

My install is an update from WSUS 2 to WSUS 3. Everything worked properly
prior to the update. I also applied SQL 2005 service pack 1 as that is
requried to upgrade WSUS. Now my server, which is also a WSUS client, has
the "Self-update is not working." log entry. WSUS indicates all machines are
checking in and everything appears fine. There are no failed updates.
However, the updates are no longer being applied. If I go to Windows Update,
it shows several updates for the machine. WSUS indicates these updates are
not needed by any machines. I followed all steps outlined in the link given
in Event Viewer to no avail. My other clients do not have the event viewer
entry, but they also are not updating.

My install started working. After a few days, there was a log entry on the
server stating WSUS is working correctly. The next day, the updates applied
to all my computers. Very strange.
