KB892130 (WGA Validation Tool) Installation Failure

Microsoft Update usually completes successfully on my
system and I'm not aware of any changes which might
have compromised it. However after checking for
software updates for a minute or so this morning it
reported "Software Upgrade for Some Windows Components
Required" and, under "Details", that the missing
upgrade was "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool
(KB892130)". The upgrade downloaded successfully and
started to install. My firewall asked whether "Windows
Service Pack Set Up" should be allowed to run and I
granted permission. Then installation hung with the
progress bar stuck at about 10%. "Cancel" did nothing
on a previous attempt and the only way out that I
could find was to kill Microsoft Update using Task
Manager and to run System Restore.

My system is up to date with the exception of the
latest Microsoft updates, which of course I can't
access. I'm running:

Windows XP MCE 2005
NOD32
Zone Alarm Pro
Windows Automatic Updates (Disabled)
KB905474 WGA Notifications (shows in Add/Remove
Programs)

I've attached the Windows Update log and details of
an Applications Log event which may be associated
with the problem.

I'm inclined to uninstall KB905474 and try again but
I'd be very grateful for other suggestions about how
to tackle the problem. I can't find KB892130 in
Microsoft Downloads so I can't try to run it as a
standalone.

No luck so far, after wasting most of the day. Still hoping some
knowledgeable assistance will be forthcoming in this Newsgroup. If I
ever learn of a solution I'll post it here.

The problem is based on your "Firewall" ZoneAlarm. I'ld recommend
uninstalling that one and enableing the Windows XP Firewall instead.

I disabled NOD32 and Zone Alarm and that solved the problem.
I didn't enable Windows Firewall because I'm behind a router
with it's own firewall. Very many thanks for your helpful
response.

Zone Alarm is an historical relic and probably not needed but,I
believe, very difficult to uninstall properly.

As you'll see from my response to Ottmar Freudenberger,
who solved it for me, the update worked after I disabled
NOD32 (probably unnecessarily)and Zone Alarm. I didn't
bother to enable Windows Firewall because my system is
behind a router with its own firewall.

I'd recommend that, rather than continuing to the remaining
updates, you close Microsoft Update immediately and restart
your computer if KB892130 installs successfully. At least
you won't lose the problem update if anything goes wrong
subsequently. After that you could disable Windows Firewall
and continue updating in your normal environment.

Hope this helps. If not there are other suggestions in
Freudi's post.

Hello,
im having the same problem.
first - where i find the zone alarm in my PC?
second - after disabled the NODE32 the problem not fixed and still can't
install WGA.
