Hi I have tried all suggested solutions. Doesn't work. All other updates are
no problem at all, just this annoying pop up junkmail filter won't install.
Anybody out there who did find the right solution?

I have the same problem - I found the Knowledge Base article at
microsoft.com:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...d-d6d99620dd71

Here you can download the hotfix and manually install it.

But... This installation also fails for me - the hotfix tells me
something like "Invalid H-drive - cannot install" - I don't have a H-
drive so no wonder it's invalid...

Not a solution to the problem but perhaps we can see if all of us get
the same error message!

Actually this link doesn't refer to the knowledge base article but the
download page of the patch if somebody is interested here is the kb-
article:

re: Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB936030) fail to install

Hello all

I encountered this problem at work when receiving updates from WSUS.
In my case, I discovered that the problem was due to me having changed
a drive letter assignment.

I built my desktop with 2 partitions. When Windows was loaded the OS
assigns C:\ as the primary, D:\ as the removable (CDROM) and it
assigned E:\ as the other parition by default.
I installed MS office then a short time later decided to change my E:\
drive to a different drive letter.
It was after this change that the office updates begain to fail as I
had installed originally MS Office to the E:\ drive. Standard windows
updates are fine but the Office updates always fail due to this.

I tested this was the case by changing the drive letter to it's
original assignment and the update installed successfully.

Another way to crack this would be perhaps to remove and reinstall
office on the re-named partition, therefore updating the registry
entries, or edit the registry itself but I haven't tried either of
these.

Hope this helps

Regards

Dantareas

re: Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB936030) fail to install

I downloaded the file directly from M$'s site, but got an installation
error that led me to a help file in Office (C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\1033\SETUP.CHM). From there, searched on "Office
Source Engine" which resulted in these instructions below. I followed
them, enabled the source engine, then used the automatic update, and
it worked fine! (you could probably use the file if you dl'd it)

--------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to install, repair, or uninstall Office, you may
receive the following error message:

Office Setup encountered a problem with the Office Source Engine,
system error: [error number]. Please open SETUP.CHM and look for
"Office Source Engine" for information on how to resolve this problem.

CAUSE
This error may occur when you are installing, repairing, or
uninstalling Office and one of the following conditions are true:

The Office Source Engine (ose.exe) failed to start either because it's
stopped or disabled.
The Office Source Engine no longer exists.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

If the Office Source Engine has been stopped or disabled

Log on with Administrative privileges.
Right click on My Computer.
Select Manager.
Click on Services and Applications.
Select Services.
Find Office Source Engine and enable the Service.

------------
If the Office Source Engine has been deleted

Log on with Administrative privileges.
Run Setup (setup.exe) for Office.
Select Repair or Reinstall, and then click Next.
Select Reinstall, and then click Install.
Complete the installation for Office.

download is fine , wont install

I'm having the same problem, however i downloaed ABEXO free registry cleaner a few weeks back, it may have deleted the registry key necessary to install the update, prior to Abexo, all installations were completed successfully. Any suggestions greatly appreciated, can i retrieve the registry somehow or can i manually install? Thanks, Catfish

Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter fails to install

I had the same problem with the Outlook 2003 junk email filter failing to install. I fixed it on my pc by starting the 'Office Source Engine' service in the services area under 'adminitrative tools' in Contol panel.

My MSOCache folder had unexpectedly moved to a drive which was
attached to the system for a short time. The drive was gone now and so
was the MSOCache which caused the problems with updating the Office
System. I succesfully used the Microsoft LIST tool mentioned in the
above URL to move the MSOCache and now the office updates installs
without problems.

I having some other interesting things going on since stuggling with this
update. My machine attempts to do a diskscan on boot up. I say attempt
because it stops at zero percent and freezes. I reboot and skip the scan.
I then go to comand prompt while online and do a chkdsk and find there
are two corrupted files. I tried to delete these files but they can't be
deleted. I get the error explorer.exe corrupted file Dc28.pf and Dc62.pf.
I just did another chkdsk and find there are other file corrupted now.
I have these in my chkdsk list:
\Documents and Settings\RemusG\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Goog
leEarth\icons\kh.google.com_icons_wwp_pointer2_l.p ng first allocation unit
is n
ot valid. The entry will be truncated.
\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
NT\MSFax\Ac
tivityLog\schema.ini first allocation unit is not valid. The entry will be
trun
cated.
\WINDOWS\Prefetch\MCUIMGR.EXE-232A5ACA.pf first allocation unit is not
valid. T
he entry will be truncated.
File and folder verification is complete.

I hope there is not a worm out there that compromised this update.

Anyone have any thoughts on this.
