    error code 80244018

What does this mean and how do I correct it?

BTW: How is this meant to work?
I can't find any links searching MS for this error code, the windows update
response center is unhelpful, the troubleshooter doesn't find the error
    either, help doesn't help.

    RE: error code 80244018

Go to START-RUN and type services.msc

Make sure Automatic Updates is set to automatic and
Background Intelligent Transfer Service is set to automatic.

I had the same problem even with automatic updates set to auto, the
background intelligent transfer service was my problem.

I had similar issue using locally configed WSUS server (on server 2008 env) - the solution was to add the url (http://intranet) under trusted sites (Security)
