Vista - Windows Update - Error Code 800700C1

I have a DELL about 2 months old with Vista Premium.

I try to do Windows Update, and it says:

"Windows can not search for new updates."
    "Error Code 800700C1"

I can't find anything on this, and don't know how to fix it. Please help.

    Hi there,

This might work for your system:

The offending file in question is SMIPI.dll
You can get it off of the vista install disk (just search for it I forget
the path) or another working system. It's under
    C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_non
    e_07289f4cca5f6990

You'll have to take ownership under properties>security>advanced to actually
    be able to overwrite it.
Suggest running sfc/scannow with Vista cd in the cd rom tray

    Beste regard,

    Michel Denie

    Nope. Didn't work

I did everything exactly as you said, and was able to copy/replace the
SMIPI.dll file. Restarted the computer, then tried Windows Update again, and
it gave me the same Error Code :

    The now dreaded "800700C1".

I also did sfc (but that just opened a black box and quickly closed it,
don't know if it did anything), and don't know what scannow is.

    Any other suggestions?

    -Dan

    :
That error is related to an inability to check your license.

In WinXP I would have suggested -
    Go to start/run, and type
regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll and press OK, then type,
    regsvr32.exe licdll.dll and press OK.

Don't know if it is the same for Vista as I don't have Vista here.
