The ACT! application removes the ability for the SQL Express update to
upgrade the database engine. This is a known issue that ACT! is working on
addressing by providing information on their web site. I am not sure if they
have done this yet.

Anyways, can you post the contents of your summary.txt to this posting so I
can take a look. The summary.txt should be located in:
%programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix.

Thanks,
Peter Saddow

Re: Error Code: 0x6DBC Updates were not installed Microsoft SQL S

Peter,
I got here after I searched the knowledge base for 0x6DBC after trying to
load SP2 for SQL. Using ACT too
Here is the content of the summary file.
I'll look at the ACT support also and will post a response here when fixed.
Thanks,
Danny

Re: Error Code: 0x6DBC Updates were not installed Microsoft SQL S

Unfortuantely as of May 1, 2007, ACT has not posted anything related to this
problem on their website with one exception. They have provided instructions
on how to turn off the automatic update for KB921896... which clearly does
not solve the problem.

Please post a reply if you pick up any helpful hints on this.... Thanks

RE: Error Code: 0x6DBC Updates were not installed Microsoft SQL Serve

Download the update and install it manually. You WILL need the original
install CD.

Got it installed

I downloaded the SP and tried to install it - still would not install.
Time to check the log files. Looked at the hotfix.log and it was complaining about not being able to read the Debug value at HKLM/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Windows/Installer. I opened regedit and went to that location, no such value so I create a blank string named Debug.
SP2 installed without a hitch.
Note: This may or may not be relevent, I did try to run subinacl earlier and there was no noticable effect but it may have contributed to the fix.
Addendum: If you look at Help & About in the SQL Manager it shows sp2, but Automatic Updates still insists it is not installed.
