| Windows Update XP(KB929338)
Windows Update XP(KB929338) has been installed by automatic updates. Every time I restart my laptop automatic updates wants to install the same update. The update icon remains on my taskbar informing me that updates are ready for your computer even though the update has been installed. If I reinstall the update the update icon remains. Any suggestions. -- Neil |

| RE: Windows Update XP(KB929338)
When updates run through automatic updates and then fail, there is no (good means) of been told it failed. When you go to the windows or microsoft update and try it you may find the update is failing. When Automatic update fails it just keeps trying and trying and trying. Which, yeah is very annoying. What you need to do any time an update keeps showing up is just hit the microsoft site, type the kb# into the search and then download and run the update manually. This way you see the errors and hopefully have the opportunity to click ignore to let it finish. It's happened to me a couple times and this always worked for me. | RE: Windows Update XP(KB929338)
The update is ticked with a green tick as being successful each time it is downloaded. It has been downloaded five times so far but only shows up once in the Add Remove Program. I have now hidden this update by ticking the option "Do not show this udate again" in Widows Update Page, this has stopped it. -- Neil "NetFodder" wrote: > When updates run through automatic updates and then fail, there is no (good > means) of been told it failed. | Update
I think that you have to toggle something in the registry. Go through the update process again on the MS website but don't close out the screen - click Update History and look for error messages. THere were instructions there to get the registry reset. Hope that helps EggHeadCafe.com - .NET Developer Portal of Choice http://www.eggheadcafe.com |

Try downloading the update manually via DownloadCenter: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...b-dc23923d09e7 *Save* the file to a folder your harddisk (let me call it "C:\Downloads"), do *not* execute it from within your browser. Afterwards type the following under "Run" in the Start menu: "C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB929338-x86-ENU.exe" /o The parameter "/o" (o like overwriteOEM) should do the trick for you. </selfquote> HTH, Freudi |

| same problem
Freudi, I have this same problem. What exactly to I type in the Run menu? I have tried to type /o after the .exe extension as follows: "C:\Documents and Settings\mcg\Desktop\WindowsXP-KB929338-x86-ENU.exe /o" but it won't run. Thoughts? In case you have any blanks in the path where the EXE is placed to, ypu have to "quote" the whole path and add the parameter afterwards. In your case, the following should do the trick: "C:\Documents and Settings\mcg\Desktop\WindowsXP-KB929338-x86-ENU.exe" /o Bye, Freudi |

Feel free to describe further, what exactly is happening, which Windows version you're running and which version of Word/Office. Bye, Freudi |

What applications are running permanently in the background? Are you able to open DOCs with WordViewer without any "freezes"? Does your machine "freeze" too if you're opening a DOC from with Word? Could you please verify the file versions of ntkrnlmp.exe, netkrpamp.exe, ntkrnpa.exe and ntoskrnl.exe on your machine and in which folders they are located? What kind of processor (CPU) is sitting in your machine? Bye, Freudi |
