Hey Chie, Your fortunate to get the WU to run!. I had that prob. took three attempts but automatic updater finally took hold and the Junk filter was installed. Keep trying and hope you don't get error message 0x8DDD0009 like I am back getting. May I ask if you are using IE7? And, if so, how long now have you been running it? What anti-virus software do you run? Thanks alou "chie" wrote: > I did a windows update. Everything was updated except Update for Outlook > 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB931764) . I am not sure why. > |

Helloo alou, I am using IE7. I've had it for a few months now. I was able to download Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB931764) but I am not able to apply it. I asked Microsoft about this issue. They told me to turn off my virus/firewall software and retry. It still didn't work. I also tried to install the update in safe mode, it still didn't work. There was no error message given, just unable to apply the update. Any other ideas? chie "alou" wrote: > Hey Chie, > Your fortunate to get the WU to run!. | RE: Unable to update Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB931764)
Try the following: - on the MS website or with Google search for the update package by using the knowledge base number specified (in your case KB931764). - download the update package from Microsoft and install it manually. Some of the KB update packages won't install when they are applied during Windows/Microsoft Update. If they are installed manually they succeed. I had problems when installing the Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter updates a few times. It turned out that when I installed the update manually the update was missing a .cab file and asked for the original installation CD. After the CD was inserted it could be installed without problems. When the update package was installed automatically during Microsoft update it did not display the dialog asking for the original CD and it simply failed silently... Its located in the Help drop down menu. When I tried to use the Detect and Repair I received a Failed message popup window. My cure was to do the following. Note: Removing the following registry keys may reset customized user settings for your Microsoft Office programs. 1. Close all the applications. 2. Click on Start->Run, type in REGEDIT and click on OK. 3. Locate and select the following registry subkeys: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0 4. Right click on 11.0 and rename them to Old11. 5. Close the Registry Editor. 2nd. Detect and Repair Office 2003 1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to and click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. 3. Click Change/Remove Programs on the left pane. 4. Highlight Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on the right pane and click Change. 5. Insert the correct version of CD when it requires. 6. Select "Reinstall and Repair" and click Next. 7. Select "Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation". 8. Click Install and wait the process to end. I cannot claim this solution as it came from another MVP whos name I forgot. But it worked just fine. Frank |
