XP SP2 INSTALL FAILURE KB911562

(sorry for lenght of this post)

Brief History
I had xp sp 2 and all updates on my Sony laptop vgn-fs740 originally.
I purchased and did clean install Vista Ultimate (didn't do upgrade
install). This didn't work out well because of lack of drivers/software for
laptop to function properly with Vista. Did clean install of xp (valid
licensed software to me) and started the complete process of doing windows
update to get to XP SP2. All of the Updates for SP1 installed correctly. But
when installing SP2 here is where the problem starts. I tried having the sp2
update done with Windows update site, didn't work. So I downloaded sp2 file
for Installaiton over network and tried that way, same problem. Here is all
the info I know to get so I'm hoping someone will be able to help me get sp2
installed.

When installing sp2 this is where it hangs and stops no matter how long I
leave it set. When I go to CANCEL setup it says program not responding and
then a report is generated to send to MS. The reporting details state (Error
signature "szAppName:updat.exe szAppVer: 5.5.1005.0 szModName: hungapp
szModVer:0.0.0.0 offset: 00000000 )

here is what is stated on the window
"Windows xp service pack 2 setup wizard" when it hangs.

Looks like a problem with a misconfigured firewall or other security product.
