| NVIDIA nForce4 SATA controller update erases activation! eliminated my activation. It would not re-activate over the internet, required calling the tech line to get the new codes. Someone at MS might want to look into this update, because its going to cause a lot of support calls I bet. There was no KB associated with the update, it was just titled "NVIDIA Corporation driver update for NVIDIA nForce4 Serial ATA Controller". If it matters, my motherboard is a DFI Lanparty board. After installing the update, I noticed a system tray popup message that a new hard drive had been found (my OS drive) and then after another minute or two, the MS Activation wizard popped up and notified me that my Vista was not activated. Hope this helps. |

| Re: NVIDIA nForce4 SATA controller update erases activation!
Hi there, Never take drivers from windows update, if REALLY needed get them at the manufacturers website in this case www.nvidia.com, if it ain't broke: do not "FIX" it. The SATA controller might be recognised after the update as new hardware and trigger the activation, normally this occurs after X times "changing" hardware in winxp, how vista responses to this I can not tell.
