| Malicious Software Removal Tool - Repeat Install
Windows Update repeatedly asks to install the Malicious Software Removal Tool KB890830. It installs successfully, but soon tells me it is ready to install again. How do I stop this? |

I go to Microsoft's site and do updates and it shows it was successfully in stalled. Then a few hours later auto update wants to install it again. Microsoft has been no help in resolving this wide spread issue. |

Can you cite some statistics that show just how widespread the issue is and where is the information available, please ? Thanks. Malicious Software is always evolving so any detection tool is going to need frequent updates. I don't think this is a problem at all. -- Zilbandy |

It appears this is enough of an issue that it requires some attention. I am having a similar problem with the update (KB92798). It has successfully installed but the Windows update notification icon constantly remains in the system tray. I am using Vista 32bit HmPr. Well add my name to the list. After turning off auto updates and manually updating (it hadn't updated since I installed Vista), I turned on auto updates again and this KB890830 problem started happening. A search on google shows a lot of the same thing happening. Hope someone can fix this (microsoft?) Here is one way: You might also have Windows set to automatically install updates, which is the recommended setting for your computer. If you don't want Windows to install an update, you need to hide it. Click to open Windows Update. In the left pane, click Check for updates and then, when Windows finds updates for your computer, click View available updates. Right-click the update you don't want to install, and then click Hide update. The next time you check for updates, the update won't be automatically selected or installed "Mikey" wrote: > Windows Update repeatedly asks to install the Malicious Software Removal Tool > KB890830. this worked: with the update hidden go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890830. download the most recient kb890830 go back and unhide the entry in windows update. when it checks for current downloads it says you are all up to date.
