    STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF8A8D524, 0X0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

I have just downloaded and installed Microsoft Updates on two compters. I
didn't note down what each update was, I simply selected all the updates,
    including the optional ones.
Both computers run Windows XP Home, one of them also has MS Office 2003
    installed.
After installation both computers prompted a restart to successfully
complete the updates, which was what I did.
One computer offers me the choice of starting the computer in three
different "Safe Modes", and starting it normally. None of the options work,
and all result in a blue screen with a lot of text, and the message:
    STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF8A8D524, 0X0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)
The other computer doesn't recognise that it has any memory, and will not go
beyond the screen offering me the choice of starting the computer in three
different "Safe Modes", and starting it normally.

This is caused by the VIA / IDE update. For details, see
