| SP2 install failure
Trying to install SP2 to my WindowsXPHome SP1 desktop but the install does not complete successfully. First try was the 80mb file on Windows Update site. Installation failed..error code 0xD0000005. second install was the full file(266mb)from a Windows site in safe mode with networking. Install failed at the same point in the SP2 wizard... "Finishing installation Details...Performing cleanup". The install stalls and the wizard crashes with the standard dialog...Windows SP setup has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvience. Send error report? Don't send. Third install was with the same full file(266mb)in normal mode. Again the install stalled at the same point in the SP2 wizard. The following is from the last enties to svcpack.log file: > 1651.641: Migrating QFE KB924496 with command line: update.exe -Z -Q -B:sp2rtm > 1660.750: MigrateHotfix: Hotfix KB924496 successfully migrated > 1660.750: MigrateHotfixes: Return code: 3010 > 1660.922: Files To Attach C:\WINDOWS\Temp\WAT1013.tmp C:\WINDOWS\Temp\WAT1013.tmp > 1661.016: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1661.375: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1661.406: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1668.078: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1674.750: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1681.422: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1688.094: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1694.766: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1701.437: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1708.109: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1714.781: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1721.453: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1728.125: Waiting For watson First time ... > 1732.578: Waiting For watson First time ... Who is Watson? And who is waiting for him? Sherlock Holmes? At this point the SP2 wizard crashes. Any help will be appreciated. |

Don't send. There is another option on that dialog: [click here] That leads to the Error Signature report. It can be captured but unfortunately not by right-click, only by selecting (e.g. doubleclick, then press Ctrl-a) and the copying by pressing Ctrl-c. > Third install was with the same full file(266mb)in normal mode. Perhaps you have disabled it or have a different debugger enabled which is intercepting the crash dump function? To enable Dr Watson as the default crash handler Run... (e.g. press Win-R) and enter: drwtsn32.exe -i I suspect the default options will still be there but you can customize them by running drwtsn32.exe again without options. Drwtsn32.exe has its own Help where you can get more information about each option. HTH Robert Aldwinckle --- |
