How do I ensure that WuWebcontrolclass is enabled?
I tried doing everything that was outlined in this newsgroup and in the
knowledge base. None worked. However, the following did work for me:
In Internet Explorer type in the following url;
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog
From the left-hand sidebar choose Windows updates and install recommended
updates.
After installing the recommended updates, I rebooted and was able to use
Windows update again. I hope this works for others in the same situation as
well!

Another solution: for me under w2000/ no proxy/ Zone Alarm...
Another person noted that Svchost.exe was involved. So I enabled
\W...\System32\SvcHost.exe
thorough the Zone Alarm firewall as both client and server, and that soleved
it for me. Cheers

I have not been able to update since december 2007, and have spent hours
trying everything to fix error code "8024402C," even trying to call customer
service for help (after spending a hour on hold, and hitting a million
buttons, I was told to call Toshiba. The only solution I found was to never
buy Microsoft again...My next computer will be a Mac.

Things change. ; } Notice that the original post for this thread
is over 4 years old. And in the number of months that are represented
by the post you are replying to the MUC site changed and new operating
systems were produced too. (Besides only implying your problem symptom
you haven't disclosed your OS which is always a helpful thing to do.)
