Same here, been in touch with tech support 2 times, the first time, he
was "perplexed", and couldnt resovle the issue. Second time, got an
email from someone higher up the food chain, he asked for all kinds of
info such as my Windows update log, and sys config info. He gave me a
list of stuff to try, but none of it worked, so I sent the stuff to
him and I'm still waiting. Been just over 24 hours now. Will keep ya
posted if they fix it.
Thanks so much. Yeah I have searched all over for this error and have not
found it any place.
I am having problem. I went step by step with the futil resource setautoreset
and that dosen't work either any solutions YET!!!!!!!
So, why not post those suggestions for the OP?
They may work for someone else too.
Has your support person given you more details about your error?
Just because you have the same error code as the OP doesn't mean
that you have the same problem, especially with this code
Can you translate that into a .dll or .exe?
E.g. try to find instances of it in the registry
and any associated .dll
Alternatively you may get some clues about the module involved
by running ProcMon (Process Monitor, now being distributed from TechNet.)
Good luck
I have exactly the same problem with Vista Ultimate. It installed updates
perfectly until those released 29th January. It will happily install Defender
and driver updates, but will fail with all other updates, giving the same
0x8007000B error that you describe.
Reading through the WindowsUpdate.log I think it looks like it can't
download these updates...
I've tried one of the problem updates with Process Monitor running (no
problems on Vista x64), and although I can work out where the error occurs by
checking against when the relevent log file entries are written, that still
leaves a few thousand entries, in which I can see nothing screamingly obvious.
I also tried it with verbose logging enabled, and the first 'FATAL' entries
are as follows, only problem being that I have no clue what it means, even if
it is at all useful:

I keep having the same issues. I tried what you said in previous post but
when i open the command post it does not give me an option to select run as
administrator. It says c:\Users\Edie. so i went ahead and put the command in
and it tells the the fsutil utility requires that you have administrative
privileges.
I am also unable to defrag my computer. Are the two related?
I have the same problem with Vista Home Premium. I asked for help and wrote
out the exact error message and code(s). This has been going on since last
year...and once in a while some updates will install...eventually....but I
still have 24 that absolutely will NOT install. I wrote to tech support, and
received an answer that told me to turn off my firewall. Well, I have turned
off both the Windows and my Virus Scan firewalls, yet was only able to
install 5 successfully.
I also get a smaller code...87F with this 8007000B code.
Also, my automatic backup isn't working anymore either. I tried to backup
to a disk, but none of them took...even tho a message said they took. I am
about to take Vista out of my computer and put XP back in.
This error code is nothing easy to figure but I did notice I had windows defender up and running which I did have shut off because I have my own ISP virus and spyware program. All of a sudden though, I found this setting on and disabled it. I had heard it wasn't good to have two of these running at the same time. So after disabling Windows Defender and re-booting, all my udates installed properly; sure hope this helps everyone cause it seemed to do the trick for me.
Here is simple process by which you can avoid the error. Just click on Start Menu > Run. Type cmd and hit enter. In the command prompt window give the following command - fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\. Then hit enter. Restart your computer and check back again. Before this you must log in as a administrator. Otherwise windows will prompt you for the password.
