Required reading IMHO before installing IE7:

Sandi's Installation Tips <= FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO THE LETTER!

    [And I strongly recommend using
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx as the installation source,
    not Automatic/Windows Update.]

I also have problems with IE 7; tried removing it with no luck. In reading
through the Microsoft "Help" stuff, SOMEWHERE it says that IE 7 cannot be
    deleted. It
has slowed things way down for my relatively new Windows XP unit. I think
    they
goofed this time. No help available that I could find.

My guess is that you have multiple accounts on your computer. Try logging in
on a different account (most likely the account you made when you first
installed or launched the O.S.) Then try and do the update again. It worked
for me. I tried three times with one of the user accounts on my company
Toshiba laptops. I then switched to the user that we set up when we first got
the laptop. I tried again and it worked :).

    I hope this helps.
