Windows updating error 0x800b0003

When I go to the Windows Update page I receive this message:
“The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.
It also says that the error number is 0x800b0003. While trying to figure out
why it is not working any more I downloaded the legitcheck program which
stated that the Windows Validation software was not installed and I need to
install it. Ok so I tried to install it and the ActiveX control will not
install. When I click on the information bar and tell it to install the
ActiveX control I get the message that it is “unknown Publisher” and Internet
Explorer will not install it. I get an ActiveX error number 0x80080296.

I am using Windows XP Sp2 with Internet Explorer 7. I was having this
problem before I downloaded the Internet Explorer.

I tried re-registering the dll's but it did not solve the problem.

or Error 0x800B0003

So far nothing has worked. I will talk to my network people and see if we
are using a proxy server and if so, I will follow the suggestions in the
update troubleshooter.

I had experienced this problem before.

I found that it was due to the use of "K9 Web Protection", an internet filtering solution. When I disable this protection, the win update works.

This is for your information only. It may not be a solution for your problem.

After having several different methods "including"

I stumbled upon a fix of sorts -
Tools
Manage Add-ons
WuWebcontrol Class - Disabled and Enabled/ActiveX, Refreshed IE via F5
and was able to (re)install the necessary Hotfixes.
Hopefully this'll help at least a few people as it did me.
