windows update doesn't work, error code 0x80004005

For the past few days windows update hasn't worked. I keep getting the
message... "the website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page
you are trying to view." the error number is 0x80004005. I've seen a few
posts with the same problem, but not a solution that has worked. Has anyone
had any luck fixing this?

Thousands of people having the same problem. Mine happened right after
installing IE7 which did go OK. Microsoft should release a patch for this
right away. Sure makes you worry about Vista. This could only be the
beginning of these problems.

I get the same error. Hasn't worked for about a week.
