Greetings! I'm trying to install today's (11/16/2006) updates for my Windows
XP machine; but despite multiple retries and even a reboot, all 7 updates are
failing. And when they do, all I see is the following error message. I con't
see anything else in the event log or anywhere.

Now that's what I see on my screen; but there must be some sort of hidden
text or script or something at play here; because when I highlight that text,
copy it to the clipboard, and paste it into a text editor (such as this
window), I see the following more extensive message:

So I guess I've got two questions:
1. Are the hidden errors hidden because they don't apply to me? Or are these
things I should try to fix?
2. If these aren't my problem, how can I diagnose what went wrong? This is
not exactly helpful:
