Reboot may not be enough. I rebooted after installing this update but the Windows Update moron continues to insist I need to install it. Anyway, if an update needs a reboot, it ought to say so. This one doesn't. Hi, thanks for your replies. Actually I did reboot the System (a few times until now;-)) without any efect. Then I uninstalled the fix through the Add/Rremove programs in the Control Panel, rebooted the system, went to Microsoft Update again and installed the fix once more. This time I was told to reboot the system. Then, next check, the update site listed the fix again. Please NOTE that having Word Perfect or any other Novell software installed may necessitate having this update installed. I am having the exact same issue. However I cannot find it in the add/remove programs. Where did you find it? "Thomas" wrote: > Hi, > thanks for your replies. 1. I have checked the LAN settings and I have only "Client for Microsoft Networks", "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks", "QoS Packet Scheduler" (another MS ) and the IP stack loaded, so why as this update being triggered? 2. I am using Microsoft XP Home. This does seem to be a consistent issue in the posts I have seen. 3. I AM TOTALLY FED UP with this bug. Please can somebody from MS confirm whether this is a problem? If so, can we have an estimate for the resolution.... To everyone who has pitched in on this thread ... hang in there, I'm attempting to get someone from MS to check out this thread - Subject : KB 923980 wants to be installed ever and ever again ? Date : 11/15 Author : Crazy-Chris For now I'd suggest uninstalling the update from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. When the update is offered to be installed again, uncheck the box next to it and click OK, then put a check in the box next to " Do not notify me ... " In order to see the above dialogue Automatic Updates should be set to either " Download the updates ... let me choose when to install them " or " Notify me but don't automatically download or install them " Right click My Computer on the Desktop or Start Menu, choose Properties. Click the Automatic Updates tab to access the options. OR, one can access Windows Update or MS Update and hide the update there. Ah! Thank you. The checkbox did it. But reading through all of these issues, I am not sure whether this will do it or not. I did check the box for no future updates on this fix so it did get rid of the annoying downloads. The fact remains though, that there is an issue with this. Oh, by the way, I had just installed IE7, so possibly that is the cause. You might also pass on to them that my issue started with the installation of IE7. Coincidence?
