| Re: Microsoft-Update keeps updating KB923980
The voices told me that =?Utf-8?B?VGVk?= <Ted@discussions.microsoft.com> would say on Sun 19 Nov 2006 02:13:01p: > You might also pass on to them that my issue started with the > installation of IE7. Coincidence? I'm guessing it is. I started getting it this evening after installing MSVC++ version 6. Yeah, I know, but I'm cheap. -- Rev. Hey MowGreen, It's Groundhog Day! No wait its only KB923980. I've have tried everything in this and the other dozen threads I have found here and on other help sites without success. Update History now shows me successfully install this patch 24 times. I tried to check the "Don't show this update again box" but it is greyed out. -sigh- Any sign of help on this one? |

Sorry, I found it. I changed automatic updates to notify and presto a tick box appeared - problem not solved but at least it's not visible anymore. "Larry Bear" wrote: |

Hm, could you please try the following: #1 Uninstall KB923980 via Software ("Show Updates") #2 Download the update via http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en #3 Save the file into a folder without executing it yet, e.g. in C:\Downloads #4 Execute the following command under "Run" in the Start menu: C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB923980-x86-ENU.exe /o #5 Restart Windows HTH, Freudi |

If you could see my Update History you would notice successful updates #6, #10 and #19 as Manual update of KB923980. I also downloaded a fresh copy of the update file three times, once using FireFox in case the file was somehow corrupted. I unistalled KB923980, restored my system to a day before the update was released and tried again. That is the only reason I only have 24 successful installs of that patch. But thanks for the reply. |
