Update to MS .NET Framework Fails...Error Code 0x643

The title pretty much sums it up. I can't install the newest Windows Update.
I get this error code 0x643. I dunno what's up.

I have to assume that you are referring to update 917283.

This update will not install on top of beta versions of .NET Framework 2.0.
It
will normally only install on the true release. So much depends on how your
PC first acquired its copy of .NET Framework 2.0. If you happen to know,
please let us know.

The following is a revised version of an earlier post by TKang:

Note:
a. Some ATI VGA users may need to disable/exit the Catalyst Control Center
(which uses .NET) before updating the framework.
b. Users of Windows Live OneCare must disable that application before
removing or updating the Framework.

1: Turn automatic updates off.

2: Download .NET 2.0 (for 32-Bit) at this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

OR

2a: Download .NET 2.0 (for 64-Bit) at this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

3: Use control panel Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Microsoft .NET
Framework, Version 2.0 and reboot. Do not touch .NET Framework 1.1.

3a: see note below at step 7.

4: Install Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (for 32-bit: dotnetfx.exe
3/22/2006) or (for 64-bit: NetFx64.exe 3/30/2006) and reboot.

5: Then run MS Update (and install KB917283) then reboot.

6: Turn automatic updates on (assuming that is your preference).

7. If this procedure failed to allow update 917283 to work, then repeat the
procedure, adding the following at step 3a:
Download http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools...eanup_tool.zip and
unzip it. Run the enclosed application, and select to clean up .NET
Framework 2.0. Now continue above from step 4.

Ah, *thank you*. It was the OneCare that ruined my installation. However,
there's no way to shut it off, and Microsoft appears to have forgotten to
automatically disable it during the update process, so I had to go to my Task
Manager and start randomly shutting down processes that began with "MS."
Eventually I got it and the update worked perfectly, but could someone
release the list of OneCare processes that we can close out of before
Microsoft wisens up and fixes it? It would be a big help to OneCare users
like myself.

Here's a good question for you.....

I've reviewed your info on the MS Website regarding the
MICROSOFT.NET\Framework issues I have a problem installing my HP OfficeJet
7310 printer regarding this issue. I was on the phone with HP Tech Support
(in New Delhi, India) and after (2) "glorious hours" attempting to install
this printer (Step 3 of 4 at 14% I was only at 67Kbs/sec. download time).
I've attempted installing this HP Printer (3) times....uninstall, reboot,
install .... error.....uninstall, reboot....etc.

JUST when I think I've fixed this issue the HP Tech Support tells me that
the download time is TOO SLOW and to stop the installation. After much
troubleshooting he directed me toward the errors page (in the MS Directory)
and stated it was a NETFX.MSI file so......

I went to MicroSoft Website and downloaded this file and I get this error
(below):

Where does "strong name signature couldn't be verified?" Was the assembly
built delay signed? (I have no idea what this means.

Secondly, I get an Error I get when I tried to install the .Net Framework
2.0 and the reporting details state:

This error report includes information regarding the condition of
SETUP.exe when the problem occured. The operating system version and
computer hardware in use your digital product ID which could be used to
identify your license and the IP address of your computer.

(OK....what does this mean?)

Is this NET FRAMEWORK (2.0) really necessary to HP OfficeJet 7310 (All in
One) printer?
I've gone to my directory:
C:/windows/microsoft.net/framework
Under my director I see these folders .......
=========================
v1.0.3705
v1.1.4322
v2.0.50727

I see the V2.0.50727 file but because of the error when I've tried to run
the SETUP.exe file for dotnetfx 2.0 (.exe) and I keep getting errors on this.
Your help and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I should DELETE the v2.0.50727 folder in this directory since it only has
(4) items in it and it didn't complete the install.

I inserted my original WINDOWS XP PRO (CD) and copied the DOTNETFIX on the
desktop but I don't want to run it (yet) because it's only v1.1.4322.573 set
up.
The current verison I have in my folder now is v1.1.4322.

The v1.1.4322.573 set up that I copied from my WINXP Pro CD appears to be
the NEW extension versus the one that's currently in my folder? How could
that be?

I look forward to your diligent assistance in this matter (Soon!).

Had the same error with installing .Net Framework 2.0. I have gotten nowhere
with Microsoft after a few rebuilds from scratch, etc. Windows XP Pro, SP2.
I have a thread listed starting with the Error 20513...
