    Re: Windows Update fails

First, you lost the History because you deleled the SoftwareDistribution
folder. This is not a biggy, since the History doesn't really do much to
    help.

Second, yes, you can download and install the newer WU controls manually.
Download and then run this file:
    http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe

    Windows Update fails

I had to rebuild my Windows XP system as a result of a system corruption due
    to virus.

I integrated the Service Pak 2 files with my original XP CD as indicated was
possible in a knowledge base article. After installation Windows update found
88 or so updates available and failed to install any of them.

I am a little over half way reinstalling them manually by downloading them
individually from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Wondering if there is a way to re-enable Windows Updates or Microsoft
Updates as both methods fail to install the updates found.

    Thanks

    1. Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from
Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows
    XP installation:

    2. Re-enable Automatic Updates. Thanks[/color]

    I have uninstalled the "873339" update...There is
definately a bug in this update
Go to start click CONTROL PANEL then click ADD or REMOVE than put a thick in show updates and remove
update (KB873339). it shows you that some updates or programs wil be affected "egnore this"
When removed go to win update and clik Iwill choose update
    choose them all exept "KB873339"
    and whala' all done
    PS>.
If you get automatic update always leve out the above update. IT WORKED FOR ME
