| Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP MCE 2005 (KB900325) FAILED on Dell
too. Have Media Center Edition 2005 (XP SP 2) on Dell 9100 with ATI 300 with latest drivers and bios and .NET 1.1 with SP 1 (reinstalled once already to eliminate as problem). Run IE 7.0 Beta. Two ATI TV Wonder Elite Tuner Cards. Will not load new Media Player 11 Beta without the rollup installed first. Any ideas or suggestions appreciated. Happy puting. |

Suggest you uninstall IE7 Beta as that *may* be the cause of the issue. Remember to reboot TWICE after doing so. | Re: Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP MCE 2005 (KB900325) FAILED on Dell I see these posts regarding the Rollup 2 failure are over a month old, so I will not go into detail here. If anyone needs assistance with the issue feel free to email me at mightymoose_22@yahoo.com and put ROLLUP 2 in the subject so I don't delete it. In short, you will need to uninstall an exisiting Security Update or Hotfix in in order install the Rollup 2, then go back and reinstall others. The Rollup 2 install tries to access certain files that the existing updates won't allow access to. It is easy to do and you will just have to review your log files. Umm... simple intructions... maybe you will find your way: 1. In the Windows directory open the MCSetup log file and use the FIND feature to find "643" (the error code you were receiving). Read over these lines of text to find the update file that is failing. In my case it was KB891593. Then, in the Windows directory locate the log file for the update you identify... in my case, KB891593.txt . Use the FIND feature here to find "fail". This should quickly lead you to any component of this update that is causing problems (there will be several entries. The info you want is near the end). Here I identified KB904706. 2. On your control panel, go to ADD/REMOVE programs and check the "show updates" box. Scan the list for the updates you identified and uninstall them. 3. Go to WIndows Update and install Rollup 2 and reboot. 4. Return to Windows update and install any new updates it has for you. Ok... so that wasn't so brief... but this way you won't have to email me ;) -- jimbo22 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.mcse.ms ------------------------------------------------------------------------ View this thread: http://www.mcse.ms/message2346198.html |

I finally looked at the KB install logs and it appears that some KB does not properly handle IE7. I uninstalled IE7beta3 and now it works like a charm. |

I've done the search so far and i found the following: [KB895572.log] "0.141: Setup cannot update your Windows Media Player 10 files because the language installed on your system is different from the update language. 4.719: Message displayed to the user: Setup cannot update your Windows Media Player 10 files because the language installed on your system is different from the update language. 4.719: User Input: OK 4.719: Update.exe extended error code = 0xf001 4.719: Update.exe return code was masked to 0x643 for MSI custom action compliance." My MCE is a german one, what the heck means different language ? where can i download that WindowsMedia10-KB895572-x86.exe in a different language? Or is there a switch to set another language? Oh btw.. I have IE7 final and WMP11 final installed -- trying to rollback to WMP10 doesn't work. Greets!
